At the end of the day, the coach just needs to ensure the team runs smoothly and the atmosphere is good and conducive to good performances.

Kohli isn't going anywhere. The team likes him. The fans like him. The BCCI have invested in him. And he's had quite a decent amount of success already.

At this stage the best idea does seem to just hire some sort of yes-man and let Kohli have full reign over the team. Why create more conflicts in the dressing room with a clash of personalities? Just let Kohli pick whoever he wants and move on ahead.

The coach helps with strategies, helps with technical aspects as well. Some one like Kirsten was a huge difference for the team. There are many important things the modern coach does which helps the team. The coach is important IMO.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah, it seems weird to me. It might just be that the selection committee wants to have Kohli on the same page given the Kumble fiasco.

By the way, don't like your idea of having shastri as director and some one else as coach like in England. In England, the roles are clearly defined. If we have two appointees, it will just be a power struggle between them.

We can define the roles just like ECB have done. Only issue will be that the CAC will become pointless. For all intents and purposes, they were supposed to be like our answer to that Andrew Strauss and Pat Howard positions ECB and CA have got. Unfortunately, those 3 are busy doing other stuff too and are not full time, plus BCCI will not want to entrust so much of power to that one group as they may feel like interfering on anything at anytime depending how lucrative it is for them and their respective state boards. Its all one lousy mess, and the SC getting involved has only ended up making it messier.

Yeah I agree HB. The ECB setup is quite good. I would like some thing like that in place after World Cup 2019 as well. Don't want it right now. Would be too many things before the WC.

The supreme court has made it messy indeed. Recently Jaitley also made a comment. BJP wants to get involved more deeply in BCCI as well I think.

No commentary is a huge plus. It's not totally ridiculous that he could do a good job... He basically was the coach when he was appointed team director. And the team seems to like him.
