I am afraid IPL will mess up his technique. This might sound weird, but BCCI should pay good money to 4-5 test specialists and ensure that they don't play the shorter formats. Agarwal adjusted his technique for T20s and it badly affected his game in the longer format. He looked rubbish in Australia. These kind of things can't be prevented unless players are provided an incentive to keep their focus on the on the longest format.
This can sound like a meme excuse but I think it definitely applies for Rahul.. Rahul was a very good test player and meh odi player when he started.. Before he transformed to an awesome t20 player in ipl and cannot find a place in test team now.

Rahul doesn't know what he is doing in the Indian cricket team anymore. Opener? Middle order bat? WK-batsman? Has donned so many hats. Really feel bad that an obvious talent like him is getting somewhat wasted. Can't remember when he last played a test .

He was given a long rope in tests and hasn't proved himself to be test quality.

Oh man, his bowling really sucks in LOI. We can't possibly play him to boost batting when we have Hardik Pandya.

So 5-0 in England coming up? We'll be there in August/September, which should be towards the end of the English season, so hopefully the pitches take some turn. But no one (Rohit aside) seems to be able to score runs anymore. A glut of white-ball domestic stuff + the IPL in the build up to this tour too. It's going to be ugly.

Think it will be very hard for India in England.

You look at the two most difficult series for England they hosted and it was Pakistan in 2016 (i think) with the likes of Younis, Misbah, Azhar, Shafiq (stop laughing) and a gun bowling attack with a few friendly pitches doing really well to hold them to a 2-2 draw.

Australia also drew 2-2 a few years ago with Smith in monster form along with a really good bowling line up.

I don't think the seamers will be an issue for England, but do worry that those 2 batting line ups who did so well are at a higher level than current India batting.

Rahane will have one gorgeous innings and nine failures.

Maybe another 4-1 to England, a couple of batterings and India to lose one test due to some trolling lower order runs from England while India collapse from 175-5 chasing 230 to to 211 all out.

Whatever it takes!!!
We were very far away from our best in 2018 and we were still a Sam Curran away from winning the series IMO. I expect us to play much much better. Its too early to make any firm predictions but I do think we will play better than we did in 2018.

Kohli was at his best in 2018 though. Can't see him repeating his heroics this time.
