England Innings

273/4

(72 Overs) RR 3.79

ME Trescothick 81, MA Butcher 85*

Fernando 2/87, Muralitharan 1/74

Not a bad start to the final test which England started in attacking fashion with M.Vaughan and M.Trescothick keeping the run rate above 5 an over for much of the morring's play. It was helped by the fact that Upashantha couldn't get his run up's right and the first over lasted 9 balls after 3 NB's and the first 2 overs took nearly 25 mins to complete. Vaughan was dismissed for 36 in the 15th over when looking in great touch being caught out with a super slower ball by Fernando. The dismissal ment that M.Butcher came to the center and after a neverous start he opened up and increased the scoring again and the 100 Partnership between Trescothick and Butcher came off 174 balls in 189 mins. Trescothick was dismissed by Muralitharan in the 50th over for a well bulit 81. This ment that N.Hussain came to the middle and in the situation I thought he would play his tipical innings, however he wannted to maintain/increase the scoring yet again and paid the biggest possible penalty his wicket! scoring 16 from 24, however this doesn't indicate just how attacking he was trying to be. G.Thorpe came to the middle at 219/3 in the 57th over and kept the scoring ticking over and was very, very lucky to escape a caught behind of an regulation catch that clealy took an egde and made a loud noise as well however Umpire D.Orchard from SA didn't pick up on it and Thorpe had a let off going on to score 32 getting out to another regulation catch behind that was given out. AJ Stewart came to the middle to replace Thorpe and made it to just 7* before bad light and then rain stopped play slighly early.

Lets hope England can push on to around 500 and take a few wickets late in the day.

Why is the word "DRAW" kind of flashing in front of my eyes?
Iam think that annoying rain has something to do with it.

Butcher couldn't have put it better either

"How many times have you ever seen England batting for 3 days"

No England I think! it's the last test (of 3) and we are 1-0 up, they need to win to draw the series :D

Ah, yea true. Nice to see you back your team to do well. Especially in the position they are in now.

It looks like it's heading for a draw now Sri Lanka have gone onto the ultra defensive they only scored about 44 runs from the start of play through to lunch Jayasuriya 35(105)and Tillikratne 20 (65).

However you never know as England have been taking wickets and it's now 229/7 (3.20pm) or technically for 8 as M.Attaptu wont bat again after fraturing his finger yesterday.

Attapatu put in a good effort, but it wasn't good enough 8D

That 6 off Murali from Trescothick was simply wonderful :D

Yep, those last 6 overs were great fun to watch, hope England can take that sort of batting into the 1 dayers.
