He has captained Yorkshire's T20 side in the past...maybe 2012 when Gale was injured. On trial at Sussex at the moment apparently.

Yeah I was a big fan back around 2012. He had a few injuries in 2013 and seemed to completely lose it after that though; he even ended up playing as a specialist batsman at one point. It looks like he found some of his form in the T20s last season but then was released anyway; a bit of a shame. T20 cricket was always his strongest format but he was hardly outright struggling in the other formats before his injury.

Google informs me that he played for Barnsley over the last couple of weekends, batted three and didn't bowl. Doesn't seem encouraging.

International Coach
Matt Coles done an interview where he was talking about new responsibility recently.

This is how he got out last over of today.

He may have had the yips, but if you've only got Rashid as your lead spinner and you know you don't want Carver in the first team yet, I'd have expected that you would actually sign a semi-competent spinner in case Rashid gets called up or injured.

Hence Middlebrook, I guess.

Yeah, but actually sign him rather than going "oh **** our spinner's gone and we need someone else, who can we get registered before the toss?" like a park cricket captain on a Saturday afternoon.

But why sign him if you don't actually need to?
Exactly, why spend the contract on him?

Wonder whether the fact that Gillespie is the coach, and seen this happen a bit in Australian domestic cricket (taking guys from outside squad), made a difference.

Anyone here know much about Mark Footitt? It might only be in division two but you'd think a left armer with genuine pace who took 84 wickets at 19 last season would be on England's radar

There's something awfully pleasing about Hales being completely unable to not score runs after those choice words.

He was part of the EPP over the winter, I think. Not sure he's really in the frame for a call up, but if a few more injuries and drastic form losses occur, never say never. Looks a decent bowler, but his 'genuine pace' isn't going to be a factor at international level IMO.

In saying that, anything to avoid Tymal bloody Mills getting picked is a positive to me.
