Are the Aussies getting back to the attitude era?

Shri

Mr. Glass
No. The 90s and early 00s Aus teams had reserve players who would have been international regulars for other national sides. The reserves are not that strong now and when(not if) when Starc gets injured again, the bowling would become weak. They would not become terrible but would become so much easier to tackle. I am talking about the present but in 5 years time? I don't know.

Its a very strong team, only 2 things missing in most of these guys cvs though, a win in England in thee Ashes and a t20 world cup win, achieve both and yeah we may have to take about atg status.

A test win in India would be a lot more important than a T20 world cup win. Anyone can win a T20 world cup you pretty much just have to be decent, rock up and have a bit of luck on the day.

The batting's not strong enough yet. But I have to say there do feel similarities in the sense this was such an exciting victory because it was a young team, a new breed, a new era. In that sense it was a hugely satisfying WC win; much more so than 2007, for example.

The things is though, considering the players we have, it's really weird that we consistently underperform in world t20s.

Yeah saying anyone can win a T20 with a bit of luck is rubbish, Australia have been ordinary in world T20's for a long time now despite having some of the best T20 players ever. Also Australia haven't won even a single test match in India since the 2004 series, let alone a whole series.

There was that ridiculous LBW non-call in 2010 when Johnson had whoever it was trapped plumb in front when they were 9 down. India ended up winning by 1 wicket.

But yes, we haven't looked like winning a series in India for years.

just wondering is the consensus on the t20 game positive or negative here?
There is quite a strong niche of fans who follow the IPL and T20 in general. Them aside the general ranking of the forms of the game for most peeps on CW is:
Tests
Daylight
ODIs
Insert your second favourite sport here e.g. AFL or League
T20
Daylight
Your next ten favourite sports
Sports you watch when bored
Daylight
The IPL

You have to insert the World Cup somewhere above ODIs or the daylight above that. Many peeps here like Burgey prefer only the World cup in ODIs and believe that the other ODIs are meaningless.

I kind of still believe that if we're to get rid of one format I'll be getting rid of ODIs over T20s, even though I still thoroughly enjoy either format.

It's really not. Australia really don't have much to improve on in general in T20s, just performing on the occasions.

However, Australia are not going to win a test series in India without genuine improvement, and a bit of luck won't help much. A test win in India would be a real sign of the team becoming more dominant, more so than a random world t20 win.
