    Please piss off ECB

ECB moots four-day Tests, 40-over World Cup | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Test cricket could be reduced to four days, and the next World Cup curtailed to 40 overs a side, if wide-ranging discussions between the chairmen of the English counties and the ECB become firm proposals, and are ultimately adopted by the ICC.

    What a bunch of chumps.

Oh great. And WTF about weather? Yeah, four day Tests are great for getting result oriented cricket.
Could have sworn 40-over cricket has not been all that well received in the first country it was played in. Um, England.
Oh well, guess because they cannot win the 50-over major thing they want change as well.

50 overs odi's is one of the best forms of the game both from the commercial aswell as purist pov, too many meaningless bliaterial odi series has diluted odi's charm. I believe the 50 over format has the most potential among all 3 forms of the game if is marketed and handled properly.Test cricket is probably the best format but it is for an aquired taste and commercially comes with a low ceiling while T-20's just comes across as baseball's ugly cousin.

BCCI may be the most evil cricket board but the ECB is the most dickheaded.

Absolutely ridiculous suggestions. Firstly, Test cricket needs innovation perhaps in terms of timing (day-nighters) or a Test Championship, but it certainly doesn't need to be shortened from 5 days to 4 days. Rain in a 4 day match would probably cause a draw, and removal of a 5th day would probably result in games like India's win over Aus in 2001 not happening again.

As for 40 over ODIs, **** off. Shaving 10 overs on each side is not going to change much of the game. It won't suddenly get new fans to the game - if that's the intention.

Keep the 3 formats separate, they all have a place in today's day and age. The only thing I'd suggest is have longer tours - with enough practice games to ensure that the visiting team has a reasonable chance against the host team.

Surely you haven't forgotten what mooting involves Jono?

ie the spouting of absolute bollocks by those who know no better in order to prepare them for days to come when, God willing, they might have picked up some knowledge of their subject

Actually think fewer tests in a summer would be good for England. They play far too many as it is. It's also easy to see how five test summers would work within a touring schedule. You can start playing them in late June and end in August. Top ranked teams have a five test series. You could split the others 2-3 or 4-1 depending on who it is.

Fewer Tests for England would be a great idea. Give a few to England and you can still have the same number of Tests in the cricketing calendar whilst not having to overdose on England tests.

But four day tests are an awful, awful idea. Would stand a good chance of killing Test cricket off entirely.

True, although personally I think there should be no more the one T20 international per series & maintain the T20 WC how it is. I would suggest no international T20s outside the WC, but I appreciate they're crucial from a financial perspective.
