State Shield Final/S.O.O

State Regular
The main reason in Wiseman or any other off-spinner not selected, was that Bracewell and co wanted to try a legspinner, and Redmond was the best in the South Island.

dosent matter if past reps are playing. because the fact is the best 11 from each island are playing - there is always one or two arguements, but in the selectors eys these are the 11 most likely from each island to play for nz

nope.........flawed logic if you are using it for a trial game for national selection...........the majority of your State teams & player base is Nth biased so to limit your trial based upon origin is going to potentially keep out many of your better players.......we are already going to see this as the entire ODI squad bowling selections v PAK were Nth players, and not all of them can get a run in the Nth side - thus depriving them of their 'last chance to impress' etc.........

furthermore with the amount of publicity being given to the shortcomings in the ODI team I would have thought they would have wanted to look at their options now, rather than have to throw someone in cold into an ODI so to speak.........

Here is my bitch and moan about South selections

Scott not making the south island team is dumb, What did Cunis and Schwass show in their seasons that Scott didnt?

Scott
RPO:4.94
Average 21
Wickets 19
Strike rate:26

Schwass:
RPO:4.64
Average: 35.5
Wickets:9
Strike rate: 45.7

Cunis:
RPO:4.55
Average:46.85
Wickets:7
Strike rate:61.7

Also Morland vs Redmond where there is no comparison

Morland
Wickets: 12
Rpo: about 4
Average 31

Redmond: wickets 1
RPO: 7
Average 44

hell for that matter Scott's RPO in State Shield is better than C Martin's isn't it?????????

:duh:

if that reasoning is true then that's the perfect example of why the current internationals should NOT have been considered.......the best leggie in domestic cricket is B Walker from Nth!!!!!

They can't be looking at it from a batsman's point of view to see how they go v leg spin, as RSA don't have one - so their reasoning is astounding!!!!!

The fact that Vettori, Wiseman & B Martin are all Nth players also shoots the Nth v Sth trial scenario in the foot........

it is a north V south game first and foremost. it has been built up as a trail game

only because the press reported the selectors as saying they were treating it as such!!!

if it was a straight Nth v Sth with the best from each then why is the current leading wicket taker in Shield matches NOT selected, and why have the selectors put in a leggie when N McCullum is one of the leading spin wicket takers??????

it doesn't quite wash IMO.......

:duh:

Cumming didn't deserve his position.
considering he's still the current opener in ODIs & they are playing the international players, then it's a bit hard to leave him out - although a few eyebrows would be raised if he didn't open with Fleming............

The if thats the criterian neither does Marshall he has been worse than Cumming.
what criteria - current domestic or international or both?????

at least Marshall has current form from the ODI series - but I bet the selectors will be watching him closely in the S.O.O. & going into the RSA ODI series to see if he can maintain the contrast between his domestic v international performances.........

well the S.O.O. game has been & gone..........

Nth wins with a standout batting performance from Sinclair as Opener - scoring a ton in a very good strike rate.......

can someone please tell me how he is batting - his form in the Shield has been getting better each week with several unbeaten innings - is he moving his feet well enough to now be a consideration for selection again???????? I'm aware that he is not in the initial ODI squad selections, but if he is moving well he could be amongst those on the fringe should someone fail.....

:)
