it's a bit more complex than that. the main issue was he and john wright were not on the same wavelength because they had very different methods. wright wanted him gone.
So in other words, yes to HB's question.

Macgill was critical and you can't accuse him of not being a rational bloke.

Dunno what he did to piss so many off. Guess he didn't kiss their arse
Made them do things that they didn't want to do, that the "different" guys who just wanted to play cricket had no interest in.

Buchanan cops **** for being coach of a champion team but Steve Waugh doesn't really have his record as captain watered down as much because he captained such a good team.
I actually think Steve Waugh's captaincy cops a bad rap. We often hear him criticized for not being a great tactical captain; for just being one-dimensional and not having a Plan B

For mine, he turned the team into a ruthless killing machine which it was not under Taylor

He wrung every last drop out of that awesome red rag - both the team rag, and his own

tbf, MacGill didn't just want to play cricket. He wanted to drink wine too. God bless em
And not just any wine. Preferrably a nice Shiraz with a deep plum colour and a bright crimson hue. A bouquet rich blackberries and plums with dark chocolate. The nose complex with vanilla and all spice and layered with smoky oak. The palate with wonderful density with dark fruits and cedary oak notes. It would be mouth filling with great depth and the plush tannins and structure providing a long and supple line.

Warnie returns to the box for this Test (bet he gets stuck into Smith if he plays a bad dismissal shot, and when his captaincy is not attacking enough)

Mercifully Pup couldn't make it as his daughter was born early

Yep. MacDill is a wanker. Being criticised by him is like a Seal of Approval.

"often" is an overstatement. Some people who pay a lot of attention to cricket say it every now and then.

Everyone, players and fans (casual and dedicated), seems to just bag Buchanan for some reason. Waugh cops a comment here or there. That's it. He's still fondly remembered for being a successful captain.
