Not Terrible
Simon Doull: Williamson the glue that frees up team | Stuff.co.nz

"Don't call the Black Caps favourites for this Cricket World Cup - that tag doesn't sit well with them"

"He (Kane) is the glue that allows the team to do what they want to do. He is a craftsman and he goes about his job extremely well"

Lol Simon Doull telling NZ not to expect too much out of the Black Caps, then hype up Kane and put all the pressure on him. Poor Kane, hope he doesn't browse the internet or read the papers.
Judging from his interviews he'd probably just say something self-effacing and talk about how good the other blokes in the team are.

Hmmm, I see he batted at six in that match, while Tim Southee came in at five. Tim's batting really hasn't matured as it looked like it might, has it?
He was just pinch-hitting; he batted 8-9 in all the other games. But yeah, it's fair to say people expected Southee to become a batsman than he has.

He scored 11 off 29 balls

Now there could be a number of reasons why southee chose to bat slowly when he was promoted up the order to accelerate the run rate.
However the reason that comes to mind is what I view in club games, when ever we promote a tail end Charlie who usually doesn't die wondering up the order the tail end Charlie disobeys instructions and tries to build an inning and look like a batsman. When I have interviewed these people afterwards they all said they didn't want to look like a slogger so decided to play defensively. Which sluts me off as they were promoted up the order to slog.

Haha yeah, I dare say we all would've been pulling out hair out and ranting on CW if we were all watching it. The rest of the tournament definitely doesn't suggest that the plan was for him to bat five originally though, especially since a specialist batsman ended up batting 8 as a result.

Agree. Going back to the 2008 under 19 World Cup where he top scored for NZ in the semi-final.
That under 19 tournament must have produced more internationals than most others, and plenty of high quality ones at that:

Williamson
Southee
Boult
Anderson
Kohli
Jadeja
Pandey
Rossouw
Hendricks
Parnell
Shehzad
Akmal
Masood
Raza
Taylor
Finn
Chandimal
Thirimanne
Thisara
Kusal
Hughes
Smith
Faulkner
Burns
Hazlewood
Nasir
Rubel
Shuvo
Powell
Barath
Bravo
Permaul

And plenty more on the fringes of selection.

I have chest pains just from imagining the inning. I have decided to hold you retrospectively accountable for the inning as you mentioned he was a pinch hitter.

The pitch was that low and slow Southee was seen as a good option to club a few in the middle overs against their spin bowlers. Bar Anderson every single NZ batsman struggled to get the ball off the square.

I watched the game, but for the life of me can't remember why Tim was so slow. I imagine he got tied down and couldn't get it off the square. He did save our bacon in the previous World Cup - would've gone out in the quarters of the plate if not for this Plate Quarter-Final: Ireland Under-19s v New Zealand Under-19s at Colombo (RPS), Feb 14, 2006 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo . Then lost to a nation of sherpas (Nepal) in the plate final, when Ronnie Hira wandered outside the circle in the final over and Lord Manu got no-balled.

Corey hit it so clean in that innings, also took an absolute screamer at mid off to dismiss a guy who had given him a disgraceful send off hours earlier.
