Two Irfan Pathans?

I was just checking out CricInfo profiles, and to my amazement there are TWO Irfan Pathans.

They are both Left Arm Seam bowlers and both play for Baroda and are both born in October!

The Irfan Pathan NOT playing for India has a better FC record than the Irfan Pathan playing for India.

But the Irfan Pathan playing for India has done very, very well.

Irfan Khan Pathan (who plays for India): http://aus.cricinfo.com/db/PLAYERS/IND/P/PATHAN_IK_06011399

Irfan Safi Pathan (who doesnt play for India):

Shows what domestic records count for, aye? :)

So many first-class cricketers come from India, it's a wonder there aren't many more name-clashes.

Anyone fancy a bit more research? ;)

Its more than just the names clashing.

They both bat and bowl left arm fast medium.
They both play for Baroda
They both are born in October.

Its unbelievable!

Just check Pakistan player profiles. You will be amazed at how many Saqlain Mushtaqs and Mushtaq Ahmeds, Kabir Khans are there. There have even been more than 2/3 per team!

Irfan Khan Pathan and Irfan Safi Pathan are brothers, Sangrah.

Maybe Safi will play for India also.

Did anyone see the Bradford (?) League match a couple of years ago where all 11 players on a side were called Patel? Could even have been all 22 in the game..

Does beg the question, why did the parents call both of them the same name? :saint:

Reminds me of the Lakemba cricket team (in South Western Sydney).

Coach: Mohammed, go to fine leg.

All players converge on fine leg.

Coach: Why are u all going to fine leg ?

Players: We're all Mohammeds.

I guess the parents probably used the middle name Safi and Khan as the first name.

I am not sure of the exact stats but the last time I heard, 1 ou of 4 Indians abroad is a Patel. That may explain it to some extent coupled with lower levels of interest among the British in the game.

A commentator's nightmare.

It reminds me when I once read Sir Alec Bedser's autobiography that in a village match that he bowled three balls and then switched with his identical twin Eric (who bowled finger spin) who bowled three balls of off spin.

A opposition player then commentated on it how he was able to bowl pace and switch to spin mid over and do it well.

Imgine had Eric had bowled pace and them bowling at each end, it would confuse the batsman.

Five Imran Khan's go to my school.

Imran Khan is a very popular name in Trinidad and Tobago.
