Still a couple of Tests in play, but it's late enough in the year and the games that not a lot will change things.

I'd go:

1. Warner
2. McCullum
3. Sangakkara
4. Younis
5. Smith
6. Mathews
7. Sarfraz
8. Johnson
9. Herath
10. Steyn
11. Anderson

Cheating slightly with McCullum opening, but he did hit a double century opening and the middle-order options feel stronger than the opening options. Had a bit of trouble with deciding who to keep - Sarfraz was the best batsmen out of the regular keepers, but his keeping didn't impress me, and I don't remember any of the other keeper doing all that much. Overall though this side feels a lot easier to select than it has in the past.

Like you I think McCullum should be a test opener. I've tried to select guys who have at least played in that batting spot this year although would probably have De Villiers in the top 5.

1. Warner
2. McCullum
3. Sangakkara
4. Amla
5. Smith
6. Matthews
7. De Villiers (k)
8. Johnson
9. Harris
10. Steyn
11. Southee

No spin bowler, other than Ajmal I don't think any spin bowler has been lethal this year and I'd rather have the four form seamers.

Unsure how you came to the conclusion that Ajmal has been lethal this year Blocky...

3. Sanga
4. Amla
5. BMac

Oddly, South Africa are penalised in the amount of runs their players get to score, largely due to how little they get the second innings - 2013 - Amla played 8 matches and only got 12 innings. 2014, Amla played 8 matches and only got 13 inning

Wanted Amla in there, but Smith and AB have had arguably better years.

I know I've got two SLAs but think both still need to be picked. I might have picked Hafeez as an opener and 2nd spinner if not for chucking issues and picked a specialist keeper (Watling or Sarfraz Ahmed) instead of Shakib

Maybe a lil bit of Aussie bias sticking Harris in there, Shakib and Anderson would also be viable choices. For all the good Southee and Boult have done this year, they still aren't in the league of the top pacers. Yet. Also bloody hell Steyn when does his hot streak end? 39 wickets for less than 20 striking every 6 overs. WAG.

Why should that matter when picking a team for the year? Smith isn't even close to Younis or Sangakkara's league either... doesn't mean he shouldn't be picked in a team for 2014.
Boult and Southee better than Anderson this year for me... they've performed in an array of wildly different conditions (home,West Indies,UAE ) and done it with generally top class results.
