Question for my Scoring system

Dear CWers,

When a bowler sends the first ball of a game wide, how does the system calculates the economy rate of the bowler? I am building a scoring system for our local kids and cant figure this out.

Economy rate can't be calculated until a legal delivery is bowled (just like a bowler's average can't be calculated until he takes his first wicket).

If you are programming this in visual basic or even a spreadsheet just have an if then statement to account for this possibility.

eg if first ball is an extra let econ rate = "not applicable"
