The regeneration of Australia

I feel like the selectors are getting a few things right lately. Marsh is showing he was a good selection, already showing more with the bat than Watson, and handy enough as the 5th bowler. Warner has now come of age, and is in a tremendous purple patch. Smith is showing he can get runs against good attacks and when they are needed.

If we look ahead, after the next Ashes series, we might see a different Australian team, and the beginning of an exciting new era. We have some gun young quicks ready to go. I'd love to see Clarke go in, but that will depend on fitness. We might farewell Rhino, Haddin, Siddle and Rogers after the next Ashes (although Rhino prob goes as long as his body allows) Watson probably needs to go once we have someone for #3.

Something like what follows will mean a pretty exciting time for Aust cricket over the next 5ish years

Warner
+++++
+++++
Clarke
Smith
Marsh
+++++
Johnson
Cummins
Lyon
Bird

Not sure who fills the avail spots, but it'd be a great time to be a young Shield batsman....

You had an earlier start on the other two that needed to go through the same process (England and S.A.) and have found a couple of bats and a solid spinner already. Yes you will have gaps to fill soon but at present you have a few players performing who can be relied upon which 18 months ago wasn't the case, it was if the old guard didn't do it then you were stuffed. Going to be an interesting few years watching the new players develop in all 3 sides.

Openers are going to be tough, tbh. No buzz about any of the options currently going in first. The bowling is an easier question, when you can have Pattinson not even in that line-up you've got a strong roster!

The fact that guys like Smith are really starting to kick on is brilliant, scores just when you hate as an oppo skipper and at a good rate. Bloke is the heart of the team when Clarke's not around so will pull others along with him.

Yeah its true that the bowling is exciting, but the selection of Bird and Cummins seems really random if you're going to list certainties and have a question mark over other spaces.

There's no point even picking bowlers. There's an acknowledged group of young seamers that are exciting so just list parts of the group and leave it at that.

Just picked the ones I like and who I reckon would be complimentary tbh.

Clarke is near enough to being done due to injury concerns

Rogers, Watson, Haddin and Siddle are on the way out but for different reasons

In other words, close to 50% of the team's makeup is uncertain

Hardly cause for celebration

we have heaps of good keepers and bowlers though, it's only good top order bats we're lacking and even then there's a few with potential
