I don't think anyones ever thought Elgar was totally crap TBH. He has always looked pretty decent. Has definitely taken him a while to really kick on at Test level though.
There we go, plenty more that I didn't quote too -

Rankings are meaningless in the shorter forms of the games, especially T20 as any team can win on a day. The longer the game, the more the team with greater talent and ranking is expected to win.

Just when you think it can't get any worse for SA, they've replaced Amla in the squad with Elgar.:D It's like they're trying to get the biggest assembly of rubbish they can in the middle-order with Elgar, Behardien and Ingram.:cool:

Can't think of a worse one in world cricket.
And yeah, I was going to write something about SA too but cbf. Ridiculously good team. Only weakness is Elgar, who despite his century is still ****.
We'll see your Elgar and raise you a Munro
This dude seriously looks like the worst specialist bat I've seen play a test match for a long time.
Making Elgar and Kleinveldt look like test players.

Actually, Rory's bowling very nicely here, tbf to him.
Rory bowled well in Adelaide too. He looked a club standard bowler on debut but part of that was nerves I'd say. As I said after that Adelaide Test, he doesn't look a terrible bowler to have as a travelling reserve. You'd be in trouble if he was in your full strength attack but he's not anywhere near as bad as he looked in Brisbane.

Elgar though.. hmm. :p
Nah it's nothing about aesthetics, Elgar just doesn't have a technique which will hold up. Hughes didn't have a technique which could hold up and get found out. Elgar looks junk. And it's not because he's ugly on the eye, it's just he doesn't have a technique which can be successful long term in test cricket.
Now of course there's no tasting to be had here since it's too early in his career, but this has a lot of potential

Rubbish!!..just absolute rubbish when you couldn't even catch a f#cking cold in the north pole let alone a damn cricket ball 8-) ...it's embarrassing and the fielding issues we saw away in NZ still appear to be haunting us.

This is not a contest and tbh i can't wait for it to be over..until we can get our best side on the pitch and finally get a damn coach of some sort we're just wasting our time out there...

Taylor= crap

Benn= garbage

We need to really sit down and decide if we want to compete in tests moving forward because we simply cannot continue down this road.

I don't think we bowled badly tbh, in fact I think the line and length was quite good. Obviously the catching during the middle session was disgraceful and we can't expect to compete against top sides on flat pitches if we don't take the chances we do create.

Taylor and Benn are the best bowlers Windies has with Roach injured.

Kinda looks a bad toss to win.

Watched the middle session and thought it was very boring to watch Elgar and du Plessis against the Windies bowling. Windies have been steam rolled almost every time they have toured South African, haven't they?

i'm pretty sure everyone knows that he'll score on port elizabeth, but it's how he does on pitches with the slightest bit of life in them (i.e. not port elizabeth) which is more in question

When was the last time the West Indies actually play their full strength team? Not much of an excuse when it's no chance of ever happening. It would be a little bit like NZ saying 'Once we get back Ryder and Vettori we will be set' It'll never happen, no chance on harping on about it.

Taylor was your best bowler by a considerable margin IMO. I know he isn't young so you don't love him as much but he bowled without luck yesterday. Benn was okay, conditions weren't helping and he asked questions. Direct the rage at the other shunts who let off the pressure.

That said I like what I see from Holder. Thought he'd be a bit quicker though.

Darren Bravo

Narine

Gayle

Powell

It's a lot of players to be missing and now Roach is on that list...the last time we had a side approaching the best 11 was when we beat NZ in 2012...and even then Sammy was holding us back

Also did that umpire try to screw us again like he did with Smith in the first test? 8-) what if we had no reviews left? get that clown off the pitch!! :@ .

Powell is a spud. Narine is being strategically rested for being a chucker so he doesn't get officially reported before the World Cup. Gayle never plays these days. Bravo I'll give you.

I somehow doubt weather Narine would make a big difference against Saf anyway.
Wi just isn't very good ATM, some of there young batsmen seem OK but there bowling really is struggling

No he isn't he's working on his game to make sure he doesn't get targeted again....the lad has NEVER been called in an international game and hopefully that will remain the case.

As for Powell...he's better than Smith and has proven he can bat well before against the likes of Southee and Boult.
