The value of Chanderpaul

He's really come into his own over the last 18 months , hit some superb form against India in the Windies & carried that into the WC & series against Australia.

As far as technique is concerned you'd think he'd thrown the textbook out , yet he's still suprisingly effective because his shot selection is so sound , he's very , very patient.
Also has a very wide range of shots as he showed against the Australians & has dogged off that problem he had earlier in his carear of not converting 50's into 100's.

IMO he was rubbish , just a touch over medium pace , poor control & his body language would really let him down on occasions.

To his credit he could swing the ball both ways in helpful conditions , but they dont come around to often in the West Indies.

I agree that Pedro Collins is a substandard bowler. That's not due to ability, but due to his displacement. He's the type of bowler who, when he has some confidence, can be superb (see NZ in WI), but when he's low on confidence, he shouldn't get into a Zimbabwean side (see Aus in WI). He doesn't generally have an in-between. That said, he was useful in ODIs.

This happens to me, djsj, and Armadillo because we go on at school, and the school's server can't recognise that it is on a different computer. So we all have to log off, and log back on again!

Powell is a talented batsman who was poorly coached and has devolved into a poor representation of his potential.

He switched from Jamaica to T&T in the Carib Cup because his wife is a Trini. He then played a surprisngly mature and subdued innings at a crucial stage on his debut. Got 77 I think.
Whether a poor representation of his potential or not, the fact is the representation is rubbish, one of the worst ever to play 80 ODIs surely.
Maybe he could have been better but I don't think he ever could now.

I got one point . The nations who have some sort of addiction in their youngsters cannot produce goods in sports,I mean If we give ranking for drug addicted countries ,These Islands are gonna top the ranking.. just go and check how much norcotics is used in West ndian Islands. The West Indian players look pretty high in the field and while batting too. Dressing rooms should be monitored..........I hope Mr pltk does nt read it
Bwahahaha!

Offensive and totally inappropriate, but funny. You probably think all African-Americans are crackheads.

Having said this though, I am reasonably confident that Desmond Haynes was high the majority of the time he was playing.

I think one of the problems with Powell is that he got into ODI's before Tests. He developed that mentality immediately, especially with innings like 124 etc. and he hasn't been able to break free since. I think all batsmen should play Test cricket first unless the plan is for that particular batsman to be an ODI specialist.

Did Powell at any point have a good First-Class or List-A record?
If so perhaps he has suffered from exactly the same problems as Afridi.

Powell was shipped into the ODI format after his first taste of success at FC level. He scored a century in either his first or second FC season and was shipped into the WC squad (replacing Hooper) immediately. He really was't given much time, but picked on talent more than anything else.
