The Single-Wicket Game

Formats come, and occasionally go, but the once popular head to head version of the game has defied all attempts to revive it

This one is dedicated to loko, and is the first of a series of features that will cover subjects as diverse as why bats are the shape they are, or changes in the laws to cover both batsmen facing each delivery, or a single batsman having to deal with two bowlers at the same time

This sounds like a pisstake from fred

"Mynn sent down 247 deliveries at Felix, who hit 175 of them, but most of his shots went 'out of bounds', so he scored just three"

"the laws did give a batsman three for a lost ball, and in a nod to what was a significant issue at one time, a similar award if the bowler were foolish enough to use his hat in order to stop the ball."

seriously sounds like an Andy Zaltzman column

It is a bit like that Howe I agree, but if it is a pisstake many more illustrious historians than me have been suckered, not to mention a former PM
