Yeah, considering the whole HK bit.
It'd be nice if they're to have a rivalry in cricket.
The women's teams have an intense rivalry. Pretty evenly matched, and they're all friendly off the field. Played each other recently in the East Asia Cup. HK won in the group stage but China won the final. Both close games.

Be careful what you wish for w/regards to China in cricket. If you think the BCCI is bad, you'll hate the CCP.

I see no problem with this whatsoever and feel Associates can & should embrace expats. After all Kenya's rise in the late-90's was helped immensely by the migrant South Asian population.
Point of order. Kenya has had a 'native' South Asian minority population since you Brits built the lunatic express on their backs in 1896. That is where the overwhelming majority of the South Asian national team players came from.

On a wider point my beef about expat players is really just the double standard on qualification processes. There should just be one standard on this.

Oh yes, well aware of that part of Kenya's history. Indian "migration" has also been a big thing in South Africa since the 19th century.

I have no probs with Associates having their Kolpaks.
Just have a problem with England and NZ getting them.
Stuart Poynter 2 years with Durham,no Ireland no more, same with Murtagh who admittedly is English with an Irish mother.

Stoked about Singapore, and the rise of Tim David.
Read Ben Gannon played for the USA in the Telegraph, recently.

HK’s having another shocker
Tbh to their credit. The pitches of Abu Dhabi and the ground is too big for T20 cricket. That's why Pakistan hardly play any T20 there. The broadcasted matches are not really good advertisement for Associate cricket. Expat filled teams, slow pitches, spinners galore, overweight and unprofessional players. Look at the keeper of UAE.

I forgot to add that for some weird reason, there is no third umpire for even televised matches which is amazing because there are like 100s of cameras and showing replays but no third umpire.

Our batting is just not good enough for this level. Hurts to not have Anshuman and Babar, with Nizakat not kicking on.

A loss here is basically the end of our campaign. The HK national side has just not progressed enough to keep up with the rest of the Associate world. We saw this in the 2018 World Cup Qualifier when we lost ODI status, and see that here now.

We punched well above our weight for quite a while, given our small talent pool and lack of resources. And we're still producing talented cricketers, but they're just not sticking around, for various reasons. Kinda epidemic of HK as a whole, but that's another conversation for another time.

ATM I'm really questioning if we'll even win the Challenge League right now. I think we've just got to accept that we are going to be in the second rung of Associate cricket for a while until we can grow our local participation numbers, increase our talent pool, and actually raise some funds domestically to help support our national squad players, rather than relying on ICC handouts or players finding supplemental employment.

Trent Johnston's got quite a task on his hand trying to achieve results with the young inexperienced squad that he has. All these other outfits are just so much more experienced and well drilled.

this tournament has been fabulous for Associate cricket. Great coverage, some quality cricket, and some excellent games. The back end of this tournament is shaping up to be really exciting as well. It's brilliant exposure for these teams, and great for all of them to have this volume of high quality competitive cricket.

The fact that someone like you, who clearly has had no experience with Associate cricket before, even cares about it is a testament to how good this tournament has been so far. The actual fans of Associate cricket are loving this atm.

I have been following Associate cricket since ages that's why I am criticizing this tournament. Can you give the logic behind not having the third umpire for these matches? Even some close run-outs and stumpings might be missed by umpires forget about countless no-balls. The Associate cricket is stereotyped as having old, unprofessional players playing and bowling spin cause they are too old to bowl fast. The case has been same with Oman and UAE, Look how Oman is getting plundered by Ireland once they changed the ground. HK are unfortunate to have played all their matches in SZS so far and this is just favouring the host team. Like for e.g if UAE qualifies for the T20 WC, Do you think they will play 4 spinners and bowl spinners at death in Australia? The conditions are extremely different from what they are in Australia so hosting it in UAE is useless.

Hosting it one year out is pretty silly too, given a lot can change within a year. But I understand there are logistics issues surrounding this. It's not going to be easy to host a tournament of this scale in Australia during their domestic season, and if you host the qualifier too close to the actual WT20, you make it hard for the associates to get their full squads available for the whole tournament. Most of these players and have jobs and stuff to maintain. They can't just take 2 months off to play cricket.

This tournament is already a step up on the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in terms of coverage, and the UAE has fabulous facilities. Sure they don't closely mirror Australia, but no where else in the world does, and it's not like the full-member nations are getting an extended warm-up T20 tournament in Australia before the actual World T20 either. The Associates will just have to adapt like everyone else. Just like Oman needed to adapt when playing on a ground with smaller boundaries, and like how HK needed to adapt before coming out to play in a ground that's larger than several of them have ever played in.

This tournament isn't perfect but it's very good for an Associate tournament.

Meanwhile it looks like HK's tournament is going to come to an end within the next 30 minutes.

Really hope we put in a strong showing at the Challenge League.

They could have had the tournament in NZ? There are plenty of small grounds there and that supports T20 cricket as well and even similar conditions to Australia. No one is asking them to host the matches in Eden Park and other big stadiums. Do it just like the U19 WC. Show few matches per day on TV and have live stream for other matches. At least it wouldn't be as boring as the matches in SZS which we have seen in this tournament.
