The Albert 'Tibby' Cotter Footbridge - Central Station to the SCG.

Apparently, construction is well underway for the Albert 'Tibby' Cotter footbridge that will span the 3 km from Central Station to the SCG. The State Government plans to have it finished in time for the World Cup next year;

Obviously, the footbridge comes with the backing of all sporting bodies, but it is not without controversy. Advocates for a new inner city school have complained that the necessary $25 million is a waste of money. Green groups have opposed the project as it ploughs through the middle of heritage parkland after spanning Anzac Parade. There are now complaints from Western Suburbs councils that they have lost important road funding.

Is it a good idea? Well, it will certainly help many the 1.5 million people that visit the SCG/Moore Park each year - but is it ultimately worth the cost?

Seems like massive overkill unless it is part of a comprehensive traffic management system

Bridges are probably needed across a couple of the major roads but the other 2 ks or so is just nonsense, particularly the structures over the parklands
