**Official** Pakistan v New Zealand in the UAE 2014

congrats to Pakistan on another win, they are getting into good form prior to the World Cup..unusual to see Afiridi scoring some runs too.....

Not sure about that all, Harris was mega gun, but they easily the least impressive of all the test sides when you consider world cup preparation. Not won a limited over series in ages, got whipped at home by Australia. Then the personal.

The gruesome twosome Younis and Shafiq with only a few months before the world cup still trying to figure out ODI cricket, Fawad banished, Hafeez banned from bowling, Misbah in poor limited overs form and of course Safraz turning into Kamran with his "glovework".

its going to take a lot of work for this rabble to get it together in the next few months.:down:

It is Pakistan we are talking about, all out for 100 one day and score 300 and win by 100 runs the next. Never write Pakistan off.

KP straight into the crack pipe on arrival in Melbourne.

Interesting that Andrew Alderson this morning says Boult 'appears guaranteed' of a World Cup place. I honestly can't see it. Suppose we'll get a better idea if he plays right through the Sri Lankan series.

Yeah, nah. Not even close. KP smoking crack again.

Great news about Williamson. It'll be fascinating to see how effective his bowling is with the new action.
Na KP is right, we're definitely the best 'team' in the world. Strong sense of belief in the team, daring captain, top class in the field, good fitness levels, we bat to about 11 and have a confident attak.

But we don't have the best players and by quite a large margin. I don't think that means we're going to win the world cup but we can certainly beat anyone right now.

Williamson being able to bowl means the path for Latham to open is well and truly clear.

Man, do I post about anything else?

I strongly doubt it too, I think our incumbents make it hard for him to play a part in anything other than pool matches. I also think there is a very real drive to get Milne into the side, potentially ahead of Boult because they want that additional pace as a differentiator.

It's good having Williamson potentially able to bowl again, its even better that both NcCullum and Vettori are showing form with the bat as we may be able to go in with two specialist spinners/all rounders, three pace bowlers (Southee, McCleneghan, Milne/Boult/Mills), two pace bowling all rounders in Neesh and Anderson and Williamson able to bowl

I have had a fanciful but probably foolish thought about Mills.

What about if he just works on his fitness and just bowls his ten overs on the trot at the start. I remember once watching Flintoff bowl 12 in a row in that famous ashes test a couple of years ago. Guys in our club cricket sometimes bowl 13-14 on the trot and it is not like Mills charges in.

At the very least he needs to get through 8-9 overs.

Mills is fine to bowl before over 44 IMO. It's when he bowls the proper "death" overs that he gets smashed.

Yeah, you're right. Who needs batsmen anyway? Let's go full New South Wales and pick 8 bowlers instead.

1. Williamson
2. McCullum
3. Taylor
4. Anderson
5. Neesham
6. Ronchi
7. Vettori
8. NcCullum
9. Southee
10. Mills
11. McCleneghan

He is a genuine wicket taking threat right throughout his first spell. It is when he is at his best but yes note your point

Reality is - we don't have any batsmen that are far and away better than some of those all rounder options and having variation at the bowling crease could help us.

Re Mills - agree with the thinking that he should be basically bowled out before the 40th over. We don't yet have an out and out death bowler, Southee shows signs of being it, but then drifts back.

He could do it tomorrow, very fit guy. Slower than a sloth backwards, but can run all day.

Thanks for that. Interesting to note.
Generally the reason you don't see the long bursts in cricket relate more to batsmen getting used to a bowler and being able to predict lengths, line and movement - in club, more mistakes are made, you can get away with a bowler going 14-16.
