"For Pakistan, this pitch has gone to sleep. It is in a deep slumber... and it's not going to wake up." - Ramiz Raja, commentating on the Pakistan vs New Zealand Test Match, the day after the death of Phillip Hughes.
He had so many moments like that. As I said, an all time terrible day of commentary for him.

I've never seen anything like the total non reaction of the players when Misbah's wicket was taken. It wasn't even like one or two forgot themselves for a moment and began to celebrate only to suddenly stop. There wasn't a single piece of outward positive emotion. Extraordinary.

The NZ and Pakistan players have been all class wrt the passing of The Prince. Cricket is full of such great people.

Very possibly the strangest day of test cricket ever played. The players just did not look like they wanted to be out there, and who can blame them?

Cricket: Silent protest from NZ players - Cricket - NZ Herald News

The put-out-your-bats tribute has been a masterstroke; a minute's silence sustained the surreal air surrounding the day.

The flipside to the gesture is that the New Zealanders did not want to be there. The adorning of their one-day caps could be construed as a silent protest. The players also etched the initials 'PH' underneath the silver ferns on their shirts.

Hughes was killed after having his skull crushed by a bouncer in an Australian first-class match.

The Herald understands concerted efforts were made to end the test, but compromise was eventually reached between the Pakistan and New Zealand boards.

This is definitely the most kippaxy post I've ever seen. It only needed a reference to a player's Myers-Briggs result to achieve the illustrious status of full kippax.
Some priceless scoffing and condescension there towards a kippaxy post that's proven to be prescient, Cribbage. Have a spell. :p

Well done new Zealand although I also think pak's heart wasn't in their batting to a degree. Not to take anything away from us mind you

Top innings by Mccullum and Williamson, really impressive batting. Seems like everyone warmed into the cricket as the day progressed. Pakistan's batting collapse was strange though I don't think anyone knows what normal is in these circumstances either.

And that's the record for McCullum for most runs scored by a NZ'der in a calender year and 80 short of 1000.

That's a great achievement - for a guy who's only been a specialist batsman for the part few years McCullum is now the holder of quite a few nz batting records that previously belonged to more illustrious names.

Looks like I fell asleep last night with only an over or so to go.

By far the strangest day of cricket that has ever been played.
