Scrap the IPL...............

I approve of the topic now that the only reason I liked watching the IPL is gone (ie) the chance to watch retired oldies like Warne, Dravid, Ponting, Gilchrist play again.

I agree. IPL just wastes and takes up too much time in the calender. Everyone knows IPL is filled with corruption with so many matches going down to the wire. Even this "strategic time-out" is suspicious.

5) So there is so flipping much of it and then turn around and the new season is starting again. You are going to make people sick of cricket.
I would support IPL if it can come down to 2 weeks in duration. In the form that it is, I hate it completely and want it scrapped.

I would have no issue with franchise t20 leagues if they didn't drag on for ages, none of them need to be longer than 3 weeks

It's a farce that players can just tour the world and play for 5 different teams in 5 different leagues.

Who's gained the most from the IPL? We're not talking of boards or franchises, but countries' cricketing scenes. I feel it is Australia. The IPL virtually created David Warner's international career and he's now a leading Test opener. The flagging career of Shane Watson got new life in the IPL and so did Dirk Nannes', albeit to a limited extent in T20Is. Then Dave Hussey as a limited overs player, and also Cameron White. Plenty of fringe Aussie players have come up quickly this way.
I have no idea where to start with this tripe. So I'll just point out that Warner's international debut pre-dated him playing IPL cricket.

Now, I'm on the Scrap-the-IPL side of the fence.

  1. Count the number of T20I series India have won in the last two, no three, years- only two.
  2. How many T20I prospects have we seen coming for India from the IPL? Only Mohit Sharma, by a long shot.
  3. How many Ranji Trophy and Hazare Trophy performers have we seen get India caps across formats over the last few years?

One-person example- Look at Kedar Jadhav's Ranji figures over the last season- while he can't make the Test side due to the heavy competition, surely he can be an ODI/T20I specialist? But he's yet to wear a blue uniform. And he's not even assured of an innings in the IPL. When an event sees exchange of crazy big money but not all are paid equally, produces international cricketers for other countries but can't give the Indian team the players it needs, chopping block it is

Botham added: "How on earth did the IPL own the best players in the world for two months a year and not pay a penny to the boards who brought these players into the game?

That bit is just stupid.

Hahahhaha great pic.

Botham is a wanker. Just a useless opinion from a bloke who uses to be good at cricket.
