Silent Auction Draft

Red

The normal awards that everyone else has
This is a silent auction draft thread. Similar to ones from the past ($15 million budget, 1 player per participant in each round). Have copy and pasted a fair bit of what follows...

The process for each round will be as follows:

1. I put every player who has played more than ten games (plus a few extras from early cricket and guys like Barry Richards) of test cricket into random.org and the first 12 (or however many participants we have) will be the players available for that round

2. Each player sends in a list of bids within the allocated period (24 hours) to cwsilentdraft@gmail.com

Bids must be in whole dollar amounts ranging from $1 up to the amount of budget you have left.

3. Players are allocated to each team. Each team gets 1 player per round. Players are allocated in order of bid size, highest first. Ties either due to the same contestant bidding the same amount for two different players or two contestants bidding the same amount for the same player are settled by random.org. If a player doesn't win any auction (remembering contestants who have won an auction are excluded from all cheaper auctions in that round), either due to not sending picks or not submitting bids for all players, they are allocated a player not won by someone else at random for the same price as the highest legitimate bid in that round. This means that it is good strategy to submit bids for all players

4. All bids which would leave a contestant with less than $1 for each subsequent round will be lowered to the amount where the contestant will have $1 for each subsequent round.

5. If you bid the same amount for two or more players, you can send a personal order of preference in which you get them which will be used instead of random.org (which will be used if no such list is sent)

There will be 12 rounds in this draft. Players chosen are restricted to players I have heard of. You will have a minimum of 24 hours for bidding in each round.

I am looking for a minimum of 12 contestants although more are certainly welcome

Please sign up if interested.

In.

Do we get to see the list of 12x12=144 players at the start of the game?
I'm open to ideas on this, but my initial thought is probably not.

I could make it 20 tests as the criteria, and then add players like Barry Richards, Mike Procter, Graeme Pollock etc. That probably makes it a bit more likely that people will draft stronger teams, and less likely people will get one test players who no one knows. But then again, I think 10 tests is probably enough to filter out most unknown players.

Maybe instead of the rounds having one player per drafter, you go with 4-5 more? That way the drafters can intentionally try to avoid any stinkers who pop up, but there's still the possibility of someone getting stuck with one should they mess up their bid strategy entirely.

EDIT:

And it gives you a bit more flexibility when it comes to team balance in later rounds, while not letting people know that they should hoard cash for when Malcolm Marshall is available in R12.

7 at the moment. I'll kick off tomorrow. Room for anyone else who is keen.

Yep. I'll release a couple of extra players per round, but each participant can still only get one player per round.

Ok guys, here we go. 8 participants at the moment, so each round I am going to release 12 players per round. Each player will only receive one player per round.

I've decided we'll have 13 rounds to allow for some flexibility with selections etc (wicketkeepers etc). There are no guarantees enough WKs or bowlers/batsmen will be randomized (which is part of the fun/frustration). You have 15 million to spend. You can bid on every player released per round (but you will only receive one player).

Kiran More (Ind)
Colin Milburn (Eng)
Merv Hughes (Aus)
Daniel Flynn (NZ)
Les Favell (Aus)
Ray Price (Zim)
Mahmudullah (Bang)
Junior Murray (WI)
Frank Woolley (Eng)
Arthur Jones (Eng)
Brian Strang (Zim)
Greg Chappell (Aus)

* Remember: if you are unsuccessful on all your bids, you will receive a randomized player from players that are left/were unbid on.

Good luck!

How did Milburn get in? Only played nine Tests. View attachment 21391
As I said in the OP, there'll be a few extras (I used Barry Richards as an example).

More an attempt to filter out one or two test nobodies really. Milburn is known well enough- and like Richards he'd have played more tests in different circumstances.

Right, cheers. I'm just trying to get a sense of how big the random pool is.

Every player who has played 10+ tests, plus every player that's played under 10 tests yet is still widely known among cricket fans (my discretion).

I have every player who's played tests in the randomiser. I post the first 12 it selects providing they have played ten tests or they're reasonably well known. If one/more don't, I move down the order until I have the 12. There are 1174 cricketers who have played 10+ tests.
