Mark Waugh the selector...

Waugh in line for selection?

Great news. One of my favourite cricketers, and going by his commentary, an astute, clear minded judge of the game and players. Add Mark Taylor and Craig McDermott and they'd have the selection panel about right I reckon...

This will be a disaster.

Look forward to seeing Sean Abbott in the Australian test team.

Mark likes the intent noted test aspirant Arun Finch shows, as well.

I don't think he's a bad judge of a cricketer, it's just that he doesn't seem to have much interest in watching anything not in a postcode starting in 2.

Haha what?

Reckon the rest of the world would be laughing if this came true.
It's right to admire Finch's test aspirations. Finch could easily make a lot of money from 20/20, but the fact that he wants to play tests says a lot. He obviously has to sort his FC game, but I'd love to see him make it.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah.. felt the same whenever we see Raina and Yuvi talking about how badly they want to be in the test team.. Leaving aside the skills, talents and the rest of it, their desire has to be applauded. It can be so easy to just enjoy being a T20 specialist and go around the world in different leagues and have family vacations the rest of the time. I know if I got to make that kind of money that is what I will do, and of course, take care of myself and ensure my skills are good enough for the next season.. Such desire definitely is a silver light when all we see are dark predictions on the future of test cricket...

You guys set the bar low as to what should be admired imo.

Wanting to play test cricket, particularly in a country like Australia and India where test cricketers do get paid well, is no "sacrifice".

As well as the fact that 'intent' usually refers to the fact that he likes to get a move on, at least that's how I read it here.

I never mentioned sacrifice...

Agreed. That Arun thinks he has a shot with no FC game is laughable.

Talk is cheap. He's yet to make any career decisions that signal his intentions to put his Test ambitions ahead of anything else; he's just fitting it in after his limited overs commitments, something CA have made a point of affording players time to do.

He signed for Yorkshire this offseason, but he also signed an IPL deal that will see him miss the first half of the Championship season. If he'd given up the IPL deal to play the full county season then it'd be something worth admiring. I'm certainly not criticising him for the choice he made, but he's not done anything particularly admirable for mine. If he makes the Test side he'll earn more money and get more prestige; hardly the noblest of pursuits when you consider he's not sacrificing anything to do it at the moment.

Next two years are pretty important for him. I just think he's the sort of guy who'll suddenly "click" into FC/test mode and play really well in the longer format.

Well, it did work for Warner, but Finch is running out of time in comparison to Warner.
