This was something which was once asked in the 'Ask Philip' column on Cricinfo - worst averages by a specialist batsman.

The table in 2001 was restricted to those who had played 50 or more tests and read as follows:

SE Gregory (Australia) 58 24.53
KR Rutherford (New Zealand) 56 27.08
RS Mahanama (Sri Lanka) 52 29.27
MG Burgess (New Zealand) 50 31.20
GA Hick (England) 65 31.32
MJK Smith (England) 50 31.63
GM Wood (Australia) 59 31.83
Rameez Raja (Pakistan) 57 31.83
BE Congdon (New Zealand) 61 32.22
SL Campbell (West Indies) 51 32.82
GR Marsh (Australia) 50 33.18

In that year, Mark Ramprakash reached the magical milestone of 50 tests (and a couple more to boot) - and he comes in at an impressive 3rd place

MR Ramprakash (England) 52 27.32
Any ideas if there is a bowling table around like this?

So you are saying you have never seen rleague.com before? I feel very sorry for you!
You are quite correct - I had never seen the site before.
Why am I worthy of your pity? My Rugby League interests go as far as watching Wigan, and AFL leaves me cold - I suspect I'm as interested in that as you would be in orienteering.

A false average if ever there was one. For my purposes it's only fair to remove innings when he scored less than 20...and also when his budgie was poorly because nobody can be expected to score runs in that fragile mental state.
His real (1st chance) average is a mammouth 87.63.

Well for starters I dont think there is an AFL section on there, and even if there was it would be smalled than the cricket section.

I only pittied you becuase I have had hours of enjoyment on that site and forum (which was recently put back up after a long time gone). I had no idea about your interest in the sport, but I think you should have had the opputunity to see the great site, and its a World of Rugby League site, so stuff about Wigan will be in there..........

Anyway its not reallly relevant so I guess Is hould stop jibbering on about it.

Yes Raju that was class.

Why do people always want to change Ramper's average? They claim he was batting out of position, but then only include the latter part of his career when he wasnt batting out of position, and still only give us a score in the low 30s! He probably only played a few games in teh latter part of his career that werent out of position.

But normally if you say that then they bring up some other stupid statistic which I often think is false.

Mark Ramprakash failed in test cricket. Face it people. As an opener and a midle order player.

And I am aware that no-one has actually said anything good about that player, or tried to defend him, in this thread as yet. Im just sick of it and finally I have had my 2c on the issue.

I stand corrected, although I did say think. It seems to be the same size as the cricket section though....

I woudlnt know an AFL player if he handballed a ball right into my nose, stole my shorts and ran away, but I love that site.

And incidently, I love orienteering.
