Good man.

On Sanga (and I'm talking tests here not ODIs), do you actually not rate Sangakkara as a player or do you just find him overrated (i.e. you can still think someone is very good but overrated at the same time)?
I think it is hard to not rate him at all. He's clearly a good bat...you don't get 10k runs without being very good. My issue is that is he is vastly (IMO obv) overrated. I really don't think he is that much better than blokes like Sehwag, Jayawardene, Younis Khan etc who all get labeled FTBs (especially the first two). In fact if you look at it Sehwag's away performances have actually been as good if not better than Sanga's (similar record in Pak, one good tour of Aus(Sehwag scored another hundred on his second tour though), mediocre in SA - Sehwag had a series there in which he averaged 50 though; etc etc etc.) and if you factor in Sehwag's SR it's really hard to split them. I'm not saying Sehwag is better than Sanga..but just that Sehwag gets labeled an FTB while Sangakkara is seen as Tendulkar, Lara and Ponting's equal (!!!) which he is nowhere close to being.

I take it SL don't tour as much as other sides but that is no excuse for his below par record outside the subcontinent. Blokes like Kohli are scoring 100s from the get go outside the SC...no reason why Sanga couldn't score more of them. I think no matter how one dices it, an average in the 30s in 4/7 countries is just unacceptable for a supposed ATG. One like Ponting is okay, 2 as in the case of Kallis and Dravid is okay...but 4?! And this is not a case like Lillee's either. And another pet peeve of mine is the "specialist batsman" stats that his fans bring up, which conveniently excludes his initial years and includes his peak. That is one of the reasons why I'm so glad AB is killing it with the bat even whilst keeping.

Long story short - very good bat, definitely not ATG.

i would agree but tbh imho, there are only two all time great batsmen of late..Tendulkar and Lara..all the others are very.very good - kohli has a LOT to prove yet btw, he has started very well but he needs to stand the test of time..(not saying he wont just that he hasnt YET)

Ninth consecutive ODI win for Kartik. Wag.
Yes, Karthik comes back and India wins. But will be cast away once Dhoni comes. One problem India will have with Karthik and Dhoni in the same team is, that it reduces a bowling option for the team.

How did all of us miss Kallis. Proves that he is underrated.

And Dravid, though he got a lot of ODI runs, cannot come near an ODI all time XI. Too slow for that team.
Madness to even consider Dravid for an all time ODI XI. Better players than Kallis available too.

Edit: Maybe not. His SR always made me think he was worse than he was in ODIs.

I was talking about tests. If it's ODIs surely Kallis isn't all that either. Definitely not all time eleven worthy, not even close. I'd take Yuvraj Singh or Symonds over him in a heartbeat in ODIs. Not sure if that'll be a popular opinion but there you go.

Ponting or Lara ahead of Kallis surely? Especially seeing as that team has 5 bowlers and also Tendulkar/Richards as backup.

I'd have Jayasuriya to open up (ODI player a class above Hayden) if Dhoni Keeps, and if Gilly keeps and opens, will bring in another batsman.

Lara isn't good enough. Averages 4 runs less than Kallis and that would be fine if his SR were better. Not a lot of difference there between the two. Originally had Dean Jones instead of Kallis. Would go back to him if I had to remove Kallis.
