ICC Academy, Dubai, December 10-14

Ireland squad: William Porterfield (captain), John Anderson, George Dockrell, Trent Johnston, Ed Joyce, John Mooney, Tim Murtagh, Kevin O'Brien, Niall O'Brien, Max Sorensen, Paul Stirling, Stuart Thompson, Andrew White, Gary Wilson

Afghanistan squad: Mohammed Nabi (captain), Mirwais Ashraf, Izzatullah Dawlatzai, Nawroz Mangal, Gulbadin Naib, Shabir Ahmed Noori, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Mohammad Shahzad, Samiullah Shenwari, Sayed Ahmed Shirzad, Asghar Stanikzai, Dollat Zadran, Afsar Khan Zazai, Rahmat Shah Zurmati

Considering they're making this a 5 day match it seemed deserving of its own thread.

These are clearly the two best associate sides at the moment and stand head and shoulders above the rest. Having just faced off against each other in the final of the T20 qualifiers these two will know each other quite well and the rivalry will likely be fierce. It will also be a good opportunity to get eyes on the players and see their techniques given its being live-streamed on youtube. Given these two are talked about as the next two potential test teams a lot is riding on this result. Afghanistan hold the cup at the moment but Ireland have to be favourites after their T20 dominance although Afghanistan look clearly a more comfortable side in this format.

Should be a cracker

Thought it was great that Pakistan played Afghanistan in a one off. It was close, too, judging by the scorecard.

He played in the T20 against Pakistan, whether he is fit enough for a 4 dayer is another thing.
ICC website will telecast the game.

Righto, thought for some reason he had played through the qualifiers when I saw his name on the scorecard against Pakistan.

Stirling gone. Rubbish shot, feet no where near the ball.

Dawlatzai appears to be moving it both ways, atm his accuracy is pretty **** though.

Lovely bit of fast medium bowling from Dawlat. Set him up with the inswingers, before running the fuller straight one across him.

awful shot from joyce too. a stump mic wouldn't go astray, thought that first ball to white was plumb but he probably middled it

Ball is still swinging quite a bit. Looks like a decent venue for tests, just need to get some stands up. .
