To be honest, the girt by sea thing applies as well to NZ, Windies and Sri Lanka.

Well...he will make it to 100 in this Ashes. How long does he have to play on for?
He will play for another 10 years. Should be enough, considering that the English are the flag bearers of the test tradition, and always have a decent test summer.

These players can play 170 tests:
Alastair Cook
Nic Maddinson, if he tries his best
Quinton De Kock, If he gets his place in the team now
Phil Hughes
Nasir Jamshed
Chris Gayle, if the selectors make no mistake

When you consider that Chanderpaul has played nearly 20 years and only just reached 150 tests it would be unlikely to be a player from outside England or Australia as they play the most. Could be another freak like Sachin but what chance is there of us being blessed by another genius like that so soon.

I reckon that going forward its going to be virtually impossible for an Indian prodigy to force his way into the team at a ridiculously young age like Tendulkar did. India just has too much batting talent, as well as a much more regimented progression structure for the youngsters than that which existed in the 1980's. Though such a thing certainly could happen in Pakistan.

Cook looks like the only player in the world likely to do it at the moment, though if Joe Root is able to hold onto his place during these early stages of his career, then he may also have a decent chance of making it.

Only English players really have a shot at this.

Cook the obvious shout, Joe Root another one provided he remains good enough to play Test cricket until the age of 36ish.
