Where have all the copy editors in Kolkata gone? For the second day in a row, Cricket Association of Bengal officials had to scamper to correct embarrassing spelling mistakes related to Sachin Tendulkar. On Tuesday, the famous Bengal artist Jogen Chowdhury's portrait of Tendulkar's face was stuck alongside the giant screen at the High Court End. Unfortunately, the title of the painting read: "Celebrating Sachine Tendulkar's 199th Test." The blunder prompted Dhoni to point out the error before starting his press briefing, and the CAB removed the painting later in the evening.

On the first day of the match, at lunch, in his excitement to announce the arrival of Tendulkar's wife Anjali and son Arjun at the ground, one of the operators of the electronic scoreboard keyed in the following: "Welcome to Mr Anjali Tendulkar and Master Arjun Tendulkar at Eden Garden Kolkata on the occasion of the 199th Test Match of Mr Sachin Tendulkar." It was displayed for nearly 30 minutes before a furious CAB official gave an earful to the men responsible.

Surely Dhoni has to give Sachin enough opportunities to get 50 test wkts over the next 3 Windies innings, on spinning wickets he's as useful as any other spinner.

Solid day for India, went to bed a little after lunch when Samuels and Bravo were building nicely, I also love that the test starts earlier than usual, a 10:30PM start in Toronto is so wonderful, hopefully Sachin gets in early somehow (gtfo Vijay lol).

Well it was as poor a day as i can remember!!..but the game was up as soon as i saw we had the absolute NERVE to try and play five batsmen as if we were facing Bangledash!!..had we had an extra batsman then 300 plus would certainly have been on!!..but they are so determined to keep that waste of space Sammy in the team that it's gonna cost us massively in this series!!...i mean they call him an "alrounder"..so if thats the case why the hell did he bat at seven and hide behind Ramdin who only averages 20 at test level? it's crazy!!..

Also one has to wonder why the hell they took Roach if he is injured and left Rampaul at home? Narine must be pulling his mohawk out aswell!!..he's had the majority of that indian top order in fits when he's faced them before but apparently he's not good enough to make this side!! .

I know it's only the first day and many teams have crashed in the first innings including england when they last toured India but at least england's coaches and selectors had commons sense and picked Monty for the second test!!..our coach and selectors will continue to ignore the elephant in the room though you can bet your bottom dollar on that.
Well, this was the best chance to give Cottrell a go. And to be honest, Narine's test performances have been as poor as can be. Although I agree he would have had a better time in India where he has a lot more experience than anybody else. At the very least, just him being in the dressing room would have been a source of valuable input for the first team.

On the other hand, it could just be that the Windies board knows the squad's bus will be blown up if India loses this series, and is taking the necessary precautions.

Watching the highlights right now as they were on when I got home from work. Irresponsible from Sammy with a long-off out there and in the knowledge that the tail were in next. Some useful deliveries so far from Shami on what is a very very slow wicket, but a really poor shot from Ramdin to try running reverse swing down to third man before he's set. Looks like Chanderpaul's stance has got even more open since I last saw him!

Also, Dhoni has had a couple of real iron-gloved moments which have been like watching myself keep.

I'm surprised (and happy) Dhoni gave Sachin a bowl ahead of Rohit. Though it also reflects poorly on Dhoni and selectors that Rohit was picked ahead of Rahane purely as a batsman (I think Rohit is better but Rahane deserved a go first)

Someone, tell me...why isn't Marlon captain? He seems like someone who'd relish captaincy. He cares about test cricket. His spot in the team is secure. What reason do the selectors give to persist with Sammy?
Being annoying to the opposition isn't a reason.

Question, potentially stupid: why does Darren Bravo bat at three? Samuels has a reasonable technique, and Chanderpaul is the best batsman in the side by a distance, so why don't those blokes bat at three and four? Bravo has had a good start to his career but I would have thought the Windies wouldn't need to do what some other countries do and bat the new boy at three due to it being his natural position/best technique for it. They could bed him in down at five instead.

The reason why Chanderpaul isn't batting any higher is almost certainly because he doesn't won't to and is happier where he is. At a guess, I would say that the reason why Bravo bats above Samuels is the same as why Kane bats above Ross - the idea that your best batsman should bat at 4, and you bat a specialist at number 3.

lame shot from Dhawan, could have easily left that. I hope India don't get complacent after getting Windies bowled out cheaply.
