So the coach doesn't believe in the rotation policy, none of the test players are going to be rested, but the coach himself is going to stay in Australia to 'refresh'. #BringBackMickey

The Indian squad has been announced. I say it's a decent squad, and there are a few key issues.

Umesh Yadav not making it is a smart move. He's coming out of a break, the first games he got were those stupid Challenger games, and he needs to finish a few games for Vidarbha before he can get back in the side. However, if he's been marked as a Test specialist, we don't know if India is fielding the best bowling unit they can field, if they're picking ODI specialists. But if he's been dropped for poor performance (career average 41, strike rate in the high thirties and economy over six), it doesn't hold so much good. For they have Shami Ahmed, who's taken nine wickets in eleven matches, and kept a low economy in low-scoring games and the Zimbabwe tour- economy or no economy, picking one with a strike rate of 55 is stupid. They have Vinay Kumar, whose economy isn't very low, and struggles to chip wickets at a strike rate of 39- and in his last 11 matches, has a poor strike rate of 46 and a not-so-great economy of 5.38 against Umesh's 36 and 5.52. Then there's Ishant, who's also battling poor economy and also bowls slower than Umesh, and has had success largely due to the hit-and-miss nature of the format. You need your fastest bowlers to succeed, but if they're dropped for poor economy for slower, less 'expensive' bowlers, it's a negative precedent.

There is only one opening batsman, Shikhar Dhawan. While Rohit has statistics on his side in average and number of scores over 50, he has a poor, match-losing strike rate of 68 and no centuries. Too many wasted dot balls. On flatter decks, he needs to start smashing them around, and also pinching all those singles. He's not a proper opener, so at the very least, he needs to score more quickly, like his partner.

While we're not too pleased to see Shami and Vinay in the squad, the addition of Jaydev Unadkat. This bloke, with 40 ODs to his credit, has an impressive strike rate, and is coming off a five-wicket haul in an OD against West Indies A. He's also very tall, and can use seaming decks nicely. However, we see the same weaknesses as we do in Ishant, when he's not in favourable conditions- no pace, not enough variations, and a high economy rate. He's the one decent ODI specialist they've got, and hopefully they can use him smartly.

They've picked two frontline spinners and Jadeja, which is a good thing, but when we see Mishra on the bench, we know the Indian team isn't playing its best spinners.

And of course, the return of Yuvraj Singh should get us talking. He's coming off a blistering OD record, which couldn't win an OD series against West Indies A, but he's fitter, leaner, and trying harder on field. He hasn't bowled that much, and hopefully he'll start bowling a lot, because he can perform the all-round role for India until they've got the best man forth. The success of Jadeja as a spinner should definitely help Yuvraj's cause, as Yuvraj has bowled in tighter, more risky conditions, and taken a few wickets as well.

I know, it's too much. Then keeping Umesh Yadav out of it wasn't such a bad thing, but I'd prefer to see vastly different teams for Tests and ODIs/T20Is, or Tests/ODIs and T20Is,

india no hope of winning with only 1 opening batsmen, at least 3 required

especially in the tough indian batting conditions which often provide assistance to the fast bowlers
