Yeah, it seems funny, he was even ignored for their ATXI by Cricinfo where they had both Barnes and Underwood in the team. Sheer waste of variety. Laker would have been a far better choice. There seems to be some doubt over him, what I can't quite figure out. His stats are incredible for a spinner 193 wickets @ 21 and SR of 62.

Appleyard was given the off spinners spot in the Living Legends. I honestly don't know the answer for sure but there are enough who were around at the time who thought Laker was the third best spinner from Yorkshire of the era let alone an England all time selection.

Re the OP, it's probably Murali. His record in Australia is pitiful, so he couldn't possibly be considered the best offie of all time.
