Least talented guys to have played international cricket?

That wasn't the question though. The question was the least talented.

For Australia of recent times it would be hard to overlook one of the mediocre spinners who batted at number 11 and wasn't anything special in the field - so take your pick.
I remember going to a Day-Nighter at the SCG during the early 80s. Prior to the start of play the England team were some sprint training to warm-up. Anyway, about 30,000 people roared with laughter when Vic Marks started to run because there can't be too many more people who look more unco when they attempt to sprint. Sort of like Mr Bean meets Steady Eddy.

So I'd like to nominate Vic 'Unco' Marks - Bowling Average 44, Strike Rate 98, and Batting Average 27.

Whatever it takes!!!
finally, someone gets it.

talent is how good your hand eye coordination is before it gets honed by years of practise, and probably how much of a fast learner you are.

so basically to know who the most and least talented players are we need a time machine so we can all put bats in the hands of 10 year olds and see who can get bat on ball.

everyone in test cricket is made, and the best cricketers are those who have been crafted to have the most effective techniques and the most well honed weapons in their amouries. even the pace someone bowls is dictated by this. how many battle tank blokes max out at 120kph? to bowl faster than a certain limit you need to train your body. no one gets shot out of their mothers ****** knowing how to hook a fast bowler or bowl an outswinger.

Plus, we have all heard stories of how Lara and Bradman (who will both be considered as more "talented" than "hard working") honed their skills with hours of customized and ingenious practice methods.. So the question is what is meant as talent here? Sachin honed his skills even when he was 18 or 28 or 38 and kept evolving as a batsman... Lara worked harder than most 10 year olds to get good at the stuff he was always called "talented" at.. Both blokes have put in the hard yards, just at different stages of their life and career.

Goughy once made a post stating that he felt it was incorrect to say Colly isn't or wasn't talented and that is talent was in his mental strength. Valid argument IMO, I'd never say Colly was not talented tbh.
My friend, your memory is too good. Collingwood was as naturally talented as most, if not more so. He was mentally strong, that is an opinion rather than backed up by facts, but his talent was constrained by his technique.

Collingwood was blessed but he had the backlit of a nervous 13 year old. Possibly a result of over coaching or playing on wet Northern wickets as a junior but that is all conjecture.

Yeah you don't score tons against South Africa, India and New Zealand (in New Zealand) without some sort of talent, irrespective of who you marry.

OP's asking for the least talented player, which pretty much translates to the worst player. Gotta be one of the associates, the Collingwood and Kaif examples are laughable and aren't even remotely close.

Border. He was gutsy and focused, but didn't really have much talent.
Alan Border punched above his weight his entire career.

But to claim Border "didn't really have much talent" and nominate him in a "least talented guys to play international cricket" thread is comical

You've thoroughly missed the point.

A left arm Western Australian swing bowler make a horrendous debut back in the mid to late 80s. Struggling to remember his name but must have had a severe case of stage fright because he could barely land them on the square. I don't think he ever got another test.
