Gambhir is India's Katich. Use him as long as he is available in decent touch for the next 3-4 years while grooming someone else for the openers role in domestic cricket(Chand/Zol or other youngsters who might not make it to the test side since other slots have pretty much closed off atm in the top/middle order) . Don't make the same mistake that the aussies did. Play him in both formats if possible. Anyway, read an article on India's Ranji pitches this season. Good stuff.

Yeah this season has been much better.

Hopefully in the future we're able to get a good enough side to prepare more varied test match pitches.

Gambhir has a chance. He's asked for dicey pitches to help Delhi make the quarters, and though they couldn't, he's averaged a little less than 50 this season. An opening partnership of Gambhir and Dhawan may be right for the 2015 World Cup. Sharma moves down to five, where he can play freely.

Rishi Dhawan, Ishwar Pandey, Parvez Rasool, Pankaj Singh and Kedar Jadhav should be in the running for World Cup slots. They've had two great Ranji seasons in a row, in their respective capacities. The lack of spinners in the top performers over both seasons is disappointing- most of them (Jalaj Saxena, Amit Yadav, Vishal Dabholkar and by a long shot Iqbal Abdulla) have come only this season. Maybe Rakesh Dhurv can be picked only for ODIs till the World Cup, depending on how fit he is. Four seamers may be a possibility in Australia. Whom can they replace? Jadhav can replace Raina, while the others can make it in place of the existing bowling attack, which needs a complete overhaul, not just a replacement for Ishant.

There's also that bit about the great FC stats with poor OD stats hanging on. All of the top performers over the last two Ranji seasons (bar Saha, Saurabh Tiwary and Kedar Jadhav) have great FC records, but in ODs, they're not quite good enough. Would you keep them out of the ODI side because of that?

    Twenty20 used to be boring.

Both Harshad Khadiwale, a high-scoring opener little is spoken about, and Vijay Zol, a two-season-old young prodigy a lot is spoken about, have been dismissed by Karnataka's opening bowler Vinay and first-change bowler Aravind. Maharashtra are at 54/2. Mithun struggling for rhythm, bowling really slow.

Gopal is so erratic. Those that are tossed up accurately are looking great though.

They'll cave once I start giving them infractions for not posting commentating in English.

Should I finally go the whole hog as a cricket fan and learn Hindi? I already know all the words to some of the more frequent Hindi ads despite not knowing what they mean; it's a start.

There's that other Star Sports channel that runs English commentary and graphics, and it's a non-HD channel.

We can accept you as an honorary Indian fan if you learn some hindi, put on some fogg and subscribe to airtel.

You will have to renounce your support for all other teams and the DRS though, and promise not to speak ill about BCCI or the Indian team ever again.

How much did Vini and Airtel pay you to say that?
