Batting average + Wickets per match. 50% weighting for each factor.
Here's the raw data for Kallis & Sobers:

Kallis: 162 tests, 56.10 batting average, 288 wickets.

Sobers: 93 tests, 57.78 batting average, 235 wickets.

But I don't follow how your proposed formula works or what the answers will tell us - if anything?

Over to you...

Total runs x bowling average / (total wickets x batting average ) wil take both quality and quantity in to the equation

Runs x Wickets x (.2 of number of 5 wicket hauls) - .10 of matches played / maidens per 100 overs x 0 + my own opinion is how I work these sort of things out.

Therefore:

Botham : (5,200 runs x 28.40 bowling ave) divided by (383 wicket x 33.54 batting ave) = 11.50

Kallis : (13,128 runs x 32.43 bowling ave) divided by (288 wicket x 56.10 batting ave) = 26.35

Sobers : (8,032 runs x 34.03 bowling ave) divided by (235 wicket x 57.78 batting ave) = 20.13

There's the calculations. But do they prove anything?
