***Official*** New Zealand in Bangladesh & Sri Lanka 2013

Apparently the pitch for the next match is gonna turn a bit more, but might also be a little easier to score on, a fast bowlers graveyard as well though (but there might be reverse swing). Looks like NZ might really have to bend their backs to get 20 wickets or they'll just have to try and bat Bangladesh out of the game again

if it's going to be easier to score on that usually means that there will be decent bounce. So I don't think it will be as much of a fast graveyard as the last one - which was a truly awful place to be a fast bowler.

I was just summarizing the cricinfo preview tbh, what the **** do they know about pitches? But apparently the wicket has no grass on it, so I have no idea really

Article I read in weekend paper suggested still 2 spinners due to humidity, and Bracewell under pressure from Gillspie or Wagner.

Don't know if any journo is actually in tour, but their predictions have been right so far (e.g. Sodhi in squad, and then Sodhi in playing XI)

Omg. Pick your best bowlers.

If 3 seamers can't do the job, then surely the 4th won't add too much to the attack.
no

yes

our best bowlers by a considerable distance are four seamers. that doesn't make wagner or dougeh great, but it makes them a hell of a lot better than either spinner on tour.

i really don't get the logic in the first quote. why is three quicks better than four? bangladesh prefer spin, we don't have a good spinner, and even in unfavourable conditions our quicks came out with good figures as a unit.

there is no reason for new zealand to play a speecialist spinner not called vettori, because none of them are good enough to use favourable conditions to their advantage and they're a liability when put in unfavourable situations because they can't even keep the runs down.

On Bracewell.

There must have been some spells where he bowled badly, that I didn't see. For him to be getting the flack that has come his way.
But I only watched him bowling 3 spells and they were all excellent to pretty good.

Opening spell, where he Amanul caught off a no ball (good and terrible rolled into one), and then LBW. Only 4 overs, but his 4th and last was poor to Mominul and got spanked.
I saw his spell where he removed a set Rahim, got good bounce and pace.
Then I saw his opening spell of the next morning which was an excellent display of reverse swing with an old ball. Repeatedly got the left-hander Razzaq playing and missing, and then had about 4 LBW shots against the right-handed tailender Robiul, of which 3 were good shouts IMO but would have probably still have stayed with the onfield decision if we had DRS.

Because if we're playing Anderson, we already have 4 quicks as long as a quick comes in for one of the spinners.

TBH from what I saw in the test, Anderson was our best old ball bowler.

Anderson only played because we wanted two spinners though. If we went four quicks and KW, there would be no reason for Anderson.

Unless he was quick number four which allows us to havve a slightly cheaty batting line up, though it means we'd have three specialists and two fifth bowlers.

Flem.

Article I referred to above, also mentioned how difficult it was for fast bowlers in the humidity. Mentioned Boult is fittest man in squad and struggled to bowl 14 overs in a day.

If accept this 14 to 15 over physical limit, and extrapolate it over 4 seamers - that totals 60 overs. Leaving 30 overs a day to be bowled by Williamson. Not feasible IMO. Need to leave some juice in Williamson's tank for actual batting.

I think we need to accept the noises coming from those 'on the ground'. Not all of sub continent is same. Maybe what is feasible at Galle with its seabreezes, or Bangalore withs it's cooling altitude, isn't feasible in Dhaka or Chittagong.

I'd be ok with 3 seamers, spinner, Anderson, Williamson.

But Williamson as only spinner could only be advocated by someone sitting at a computer with Spring temperatures of 18 degrees.

agree with Immenso.

Also, while the Sodhi and Anderson selections were undoubtedly premature, you simply cannot select a young player and only give him one test. They both have potential (although I'm really not that convinced that Sodhi will ever be very good) and it would be bad policy to drop them. IF they were selected in the first place then that means the selectors think they're good enough - that shouldn't change after one test.
