I'd actually go the other way and suggest if Vettori is a crock and Bucko doesn't come through, go with four quicks for 18 months unless we're in the west playing against a western side on a turning pitch. None of the subcontinental sides are scared of our spinners, they're far more concerned about the array of swing, seam and bounce bowlers we can throw at them.

Southee, Boult, Bracewell, Wagner (or Gillespie/Milne if you like in there somewhere) is better than Southee, Boult, Hope, Prayer in any conditions you care to name. If we even had a Monty or a Lyon I would back them, but we don't. We don't even have a Robin Peterson. Our non-Vettori spinners are closer to Xavier Doherty than Saeed Ajmal or Graeme Swann.
Disagree completly
Four seamers in Headingly was a disaster, we would have been better off playing Nathan McCullum, 4 seamers only works if you can bowl them out for under 250 ie green top/dodgy wicket, usually you get to your 60 over mark your bowlers are buggered, the ball isnt doing anything and
the middle and lower order cash in and take the game away from you like Root/Bairstow did

Similarly after lunch at Kingston we were toothless

Flem is still in the "Wagner bowls 150KPH swinging thunderbolts, get his citizenship fast-tracked" stage of love with our as-yet unseen but obviously ludicrously talented domestic pace bowlers.

Shame Sodhi's gazing into the Heavens well ahead of schedule today, on a pitch said to be offering good purchase.

Really unsure of what to think of Kusal Perera - looked absolutely pooh in the CT and against SA but has looked excellent at times and produced the goods, don't like the sound of him opening the batting with Karuneratne in tests though.

Chops enjoying the low bounce and lack of pace atm. It's a pity that so much of this match has been lost to bad weather, as NZA would be in a great position to push for a win otherwise.
Pallekele is quite brisk wicket. Arguably quickest in Asia.

"Corey's injury is going to cost you, eh?"

"It's disappointing for Corey to miss this game. He's certainly gutted and we're all gutted for him" - Latham.
