ATG ODI XIs- nation by nation

Thought this could be a bit of fun. I'll start with Australia's greatest ODI XI. You can argue if you want....

    - Adam Gilchrist
    - Mark Waugh (5)
    - Ricky Ponting
    - Dean Jones
    - Steve Waugh (5)
    - Mike Hussey
    - Andrew Symonds (5)
    - Shane Warne (4)
    - Brett Lee (2)
    - Nathan Bracken (3)
    - Glenn McGrath (1)

Went for M.Waugh over Hayden and Watson (just).

Could've gone for Lillee or McDermott over Bracken, but Bracken was a great ODI bowler.

Leaving out Bevan will draw some criticism, but Steve Waugh was a great ODI bowler and fielder, and I think Hussey did what Bevan did just as well, but with bigger hitting power when needed. Symonds a must for me- batting, bowling versatility and fielding.

Symonds, Hussey, M and S Waugh and Ponting all brilliant close fielders. Jones, Lee and McGrath excellent outfielders.

I'd have Bevan in for Waugh, and maybe someone in for Bracken (lacked longevity, for me), but that's a good lineup.

Great players should play in great teams.

Dennis Lillee had remarkably good ODI stat's, although admittedly, he didn't play a lot of games like McGrath:
    63 matches
    103 wickets
    Econ = 3.58
    Ave = 20.82
    SR = 34.8

    And in comparison;

    Glenn McGrath:
    250 matches
    381 wickets
    Econ = 3.88
    Ave = 22.02
    SR = 34.0
Len Hutton - Jack Hobbs - Ted Dexter - Peter May - Walter Hammond - Frank Woolley - Ian Botham - Alan Knott - Hedley Verity - John Snow - Fred Trueman

Victor Trumper - Bill Lawry - Don Bradman - Greg Chappell - Allan Border - Keith Miller - Adam Gilchrist - Alan Davidson - Shane Warne - Dennis Lillee - Glenn McGrath

Early era bowlers stats are hard to gauge in ODIs. Lillee was good in it, but to compare him to McGrath on stats is difficult.

    Australia XI

    Shane Watson
    Adam Gilchrist
    Ricky Ponting
    Greg Chappel
    Dean Jones
    Michael Hussey
    Michael Bevan
    Brett Lee
    Shane Warne
    Dennis Lillee
    Glenn McGrath

Tough to keep out Hayden and M Waugh. Latter can bat at 3 pushing Hussey out of the team though.

    South Africa:

    Smith
    Amla
    Kallis
    de Villiers
    Gibbs
    Duminy
    Klusener
    Botha
    Pollock
    Steyn
    Donald

I know it's a bit scary having Klusener and Donald in the team but we'll have to trust them to learn from their mistakes.

Duminy? He has done nothing. Can't even remember him playing a match winning knock.

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

Nice XIs thus far. Off the top of my head:

    India

    Sachin Tendulkar
    Sourav Ganguly
    Virat Kohli
    Virender Sehwag
    Yuvraj Singh
    M S Dhoni
    Suresh Raina
    Kapil Dev
    Ajit Agarkar/Javagal Srinath
    Zaheer Khan
    Anil Kumble

5th bowling option filled by a mix of Yuvraj, Raina, Sehwag, Sachin and Ganguly

    South Africa

    Gary Kirsten
    Hashim Amla
    Daryll Cullinan
    Jacques Kallis
    AB De Villiers
    Herschelle Gibbs
    Lance Klusener
    Shaun Pollock
    Dale Steyn
    Allan Donald
    Paul Adams

Can't seem to fit in Brian McMillan

    Australia

    Matthew Hayden
    Adam Gilchrist
    Ricky Ponting
    Dean Jones
    Michael Hussey
    Michael Bevan
    Andrew Symonds
    Shane Warne
    Brett Lee
    Dennis Lillee
    Glen McGrath

    England

    Marcus Trescothick
    Nick Knight
    Jonathan Trott
    Kevin Pietersen
    Eoin Morgan
    Andrew Flintoff
    Ian Botham
    Alec Stewart
    Graeme Swann
    James Anderson
    Darren Gough

Andrew Strauss could replace either opener..

    West Indies

    Chris Gayle
    Gordon Greenidge
    Viv Richards
    Brian Lara
    Clive Lloyd
    Dwayne Bravo/ Carl Hooper
    Jeff Dujon
    Malcolm Marshall
    Michael Holding
    Joel Garner
    Curtly Ambrose

Legendary bowling. Andy Roberts too was a wonderful ODI bowler, but who to leave out?

    Pakistan

    Saeed Anwar
    Zaheer Abbas
    Inzamam ul-Haq
    Javed Miandad
    Mohammad Yousuf
    Imran Khan
    Abdul Razzaq
    Moin Khan
    Wasim Akram
    Waqar Younis
    Saqlain Mushtaq

I think maybe this side could be improved upon, but I can't figure out how to do it.

    Sri Lanka

    Sanath Jayasuriya
    Tilakratne Dilshan
    Kumar Sangakkara
    Aravinda de Silva
    Mahela Jayawardene
    Arjuna Ranatunga
    Angelo Matthews
    Chaminda Vaas
    Upul Chandana
    Lasith Malinga
    Muttiah Muralitharan

    New Zealand

    Nathan Astle
    Stephen Fleming
    Ross Taylor
    Martin Crowe
    Roger Twose
    Brendon McCullum
    Chris Cairns
    Richard Hadlee
    Daniel Vettori
    Dion Nash
    Shane Bond

    Good teams

Nah, Morgan at 5 for me. Great middle order bat. Flintoff at 6 mostly, maybe 7 depending on the situation.
