Awesome - I guess when you first posted this 3 years ago there was a strong correlation between domestic performance and Test performance. Now not so much. Plenty of guys are carving up at domestic level and getting mediocre returns at test level.

Liked the baz with and without gloves analysis.

Proudly against the bring back Bennett movement since he is injury prone and won't last 5 days.

Holy Cow! Crowe Returning to Commentary | Stuff.co.nz

Martin Crowe is returning to the airwaves after a four-year absence and will join the radio commentary team for next month's India one-day international in Auckland.

New Zealand's record test centurion confirmed he'd accepted an offer to join the Radio Network's call of the third ODI at Eden Park on January 25, and will probably return for the second test in Auckland the following month.

Crowe said he was sounded out by senior commentator Bryan Waddle to join the radio team during his book tour earlier in the year. At that stage he was ''as far away from cricket as possible,'' but in recent months he'd penned several columns for ESPN's Cricinfo website, before accepting another approach from the network.

I can't stand Craig McMillan, I mean I actually think I despise him. I had to laugh during the last one dayer when he tried to convince Craig Cumming that Corey Anderson played a Jason Holder short ball well. Anderson had both his feet in the air, head turned, fending at the ball and was struck on the neck; LOL. He's the commentary equivalent of an Cricinfo comment.

I secretly like Ian Smith. He won me over after Munaf Patel bowled a second beamer and was ejected from the attack. A huddle formed while they tried to figure out who should complete the over and Munaf Patel approached the gathering to give his two cents.
"Munaf patel can get out of there, no one wants to talk to him".

Ian Smith spends the first 20% of his time giving insightful analysis (which is 19.9% more than guys like Richardson, McMillan, Doull) and the remaining 80% of his time repeating his good observations, getting more and more passionate and 100 times more annoying as he goes.

Still prefer him to most of the other NZ commentators though.

He's also from my era so I connect with him that way - while I was out of the country when Doull and Richardson were plying their trade.

The best commentator is hadlee himself. He invented the phrase corridoor of uncertainty and during a 5 minute spell of golden words during an ODI explained the channel a fast bowler should operate in.

I quite enjoy Richardson and Doully, neither are really remarkable or terrible and can actually gel pretty well with the right combination. Generally I really enjoy Doully with either Richardson in the commentary box or any of the touring comms. Richardson I generally prefer with the NZ commentators for the most part.

Ian Smith is our flag waver and probably one of the most passionate fans in the country, it can make him both good and bad.

Cairns and Cumming have showed good signs.
    Direbirds FTW!

Morrison is obviously terrible and McMillan isn't great either, but Morrison obviously isn't on Sky, McMillan does says some interesting things at the times, and the rest are largely very good by international standards. Really enjoying SkyNZ's coverage is one of the reasons I got so interested in New Zealand cricket for the first time a few years ago; you guys are blessed really.

Sanga isn't the best off spinner in the history of cricket? News to me.

I wish we got all the cricket from around the world. We basically get NZ matches and Australian home matches. We have also gotten some stuff in England iirc.

Foxtel covers everything New Zealand and England play at home, plus most of their away stuff. We typically get Indian and South African home series as well unless they're playing Bangladesh or Zimbabwe.
