Draft: The Best of the 1980s and 1990s

The OP of the Draft was;

Would like to start a new draft to choose players who dominated Test cricket in the 80s and 90s. The idea is to build a Test XI using players who were active in those decades.

The conditions are:

Between Jan 1st 1978 and Dec 31 2002;

they should have played at least 40 tests
or
scored a minimum of 1500 runs
or
made at least 5 scores of 50 and above
or
taken 75 wickets or more
or
taken at least 5 four-wicket hauls
or
taken 50+ catches
or
won 2 "man of the match" awards
or
won one "man of the series" award

One very important condition: the player should have made his debut five years before the cut off, that is before December 31, 1997; and he should not have retired within five years from the start date, that is before January 1, 1983. We don't want champions from 70s and 00s polluting this team. No Gilchrist. No Boycott.

Have a preference for well balanced sides with depth in both batting and bowling - so Coronis and Morgieb without too much fuss.

Selecting the third team was really difficult, but in the end I can't go past a solid batting line-up and new ball attack consisting of McGrath and Holding - so Andy's XI it is.

Monk - not really that high on the batting although it is deep and solid. Bowling looks really reliant on Wasim.
KingKallis - don't like the opening pair, like other parts of the lineup. However, it has the odd passenger. Reasonable but not really a strong contender.
Fertang - over-rated, batting is rather flawed, despite an excellent bowling attack.
Watson - very solid batting lineup, awesome opening bowling partnership. Only weakness is the lack of a 5th bowler, great lineup.
Harsh - poor openers, good bowling (by far the best spin combo here), some concerns about the lower-middle order. Meh.
Coronis - probably should've voted for this lineup, it's excellent. Excellent batting lineup, very good bowling too. Presence of Kallis and Flintoff covers the lack of batting aptitude from Bari.
Himannv - not a lot to fault here. I suppose it lacks the eyecatchness of other lineups and a 5th bowler, but it's pretty solid.
LHC - no real spinner and the lack of a gold-tier bowler hurts the lineup. Batting is easily the best though.
Justo - in general it's good, but it has a couple of average players which slightly hurt it.
AndyZaltsHair - apart from a mediocre spinner and a lack of a 5th bowler, it's brilliant.
Bagapath - not really a fan; batting is weak - it is short and has a couple of average players, bowling has a few passengers.
morgieb - in hindsight I wish I did some things differently, but there's a lot of good things about my lineup I feel.
Pothas - poor top 3. Rest is very good however.

In hindsight I should've voted for Coronis over Pothas.

Mark Waugh was OK with the ball: 59 wickets at 41.16 with a SR of 82.2. One Michelle Pfeiffer against England in '95.

Not "high" on the batting?

Would've thought we could rely on Kapil Dev (India's greatest quick) and Hoggy (Australia's angriest and most underrated quick) as well. And Harbhajan isn't my favourite cricketer, but he has taken over 400 test wickets. I'd say there's more than Wasim to rely on....
