Would once again be starting with the openers. As not that familiar with New Zealand cricket will be using the shortlist from Cricinfo's exercise.

Would also like to note at this point that Richard Hadlee due to his unquestioned status of the greatest N.Z cricketer is an automatic selection to the XI.

Back on topic, kindly choose two of the following or any two of your own choosing.

Stewie Dempster | Graham Dowling | Bruce Edgar | Mark Richardson | Bert Sutcliffe | Glenn Turner | John Wright

I'd go

Turner
Dempster

My XI would be:

Turner
Dempster
Andrew Jones
Martin Crowe
Martin Donnelly
Brendon McCullum (wk)
Chris Cairns
Daniel Vettori
SIR RJH
Shane Bond
Jack Cowie

I might have picked more allrounders than allowed but don't care. Don't know who the captain would be.

Unlucky to miss out:
Bert Sutcliffe
both John Reids
Ian Smith (even Parore)
both Taylors (Ross & Bruce)
Fleming

Clarify something - If I choose not to select Sutcliffe here, will he be available for the number 3 slot?

You are available to select anyone of your choosing beyond the nominated players.

The normal awards that everyone else has
Most of Australia's ATG Sheffield Shield sides would beat whatever NZ side is selected.

That's more a comment on how strong Aus cricket has been.
And that there are only 6 FC teams in Australia. And for much of their history, not that many. And how cricket is followed by a lot more people in Australia than in NZ. And how the three strongest Aussie states are more populous than NZ to begin with.

I'm not sure what his point was really.

Could build a stronger Yorkshire XI than mos test ATG sides tbh.

Have to consider Martin Crowe and Hadlee as givens from the off right?

Do we have a qualifying number of tests for this?

Wouldn't think so, as some of NZ's greatest cricketers played in an era when we played sfa tests. Jack Cowie is the classic example. I guess you could maybe split it up between pre-war and post-war players though.
