Vaas/Malinga/Murali/Herath/Jayasuria with small contributions from de Silva etc is the ideal attack for Sri Lanka at this stage. Ideally in the future someone like Angelo Matthews who has the ability to contribute as a seam bowler develops into a decent batting allrounder.

this team is perfect for a match in Sri Lanka - but I think a third seamer should still be considered, maybe as a reserve.

    CW Sri Lankan ATG Team

    Marvan Atapattu
    Sanath Jayasuriya
    Kumar Sangakkara ^
    Aravinda de Silva *^
    Mahela Jayawardene ^
    Thilan Samaraweera
    Prasanna Jayawardene +
    Chaminda Vaas
    Lasith Malinga
    Muttiah Muralitharan
    Rangana Herath

    Arjuna Ranatunga
    Ashantha de Mel

Aravinda as captain? Certainly a contender at home, but not so sure if they can really hang with the top teams. Comments?

I'm looking forward to Zimbabwe. Maybe even ICC Associates ATG.

Nah stop being ****s. It's funny when you're trolling Migara but this is just dire. You know what kyear means when he says Sri Lankan ATG eleven.

I think Mahela should get the captaincy, the way he brings the team together in spite of the board and the politics in SL cricket is excellent.

You should have Ranatunga as twelfthers and make sure that he's on the field throughout and let him skipper them - I really don't like the bloke but he did a bloody good job for them

Mahela is the obvious option for captain. Dilshan should really be there ahead of Marvan.

I reckon this team is the one which differs the most from what was selected by Cricinfo.

They need a player like Attapattu more than Dilshan, especially with Jayasuria at the other end. His record is just as good as Dilshan's, and considering he played a decent amount in the late 90s, possibly better.

Both Ratnayake's are massively underrated. Both average 35, while playing in a minnow team with the ball. And Ravi averages 25 with the bat as well. He gave up test cricket when he was 29, and if continued for another 5 - 6 years would have got that bowling average down to 30 and batting average up about 35. He retired at his peak of his powers too. He was good enough to even open the innings. Definitely would have been SL's all rounder, and was a better bat than Vaas.

I played for 20 years in the Lankan team, I did not have any problems as a Tamil - Muralidaran

Two votes for Mahela as captain. Any dissenters?

Fair enough. Actually I agree with Migara's post about the Ratnayakes. So all is eerily companionable atm.
