We don't really have one. None of Latham, Young, Mitchell or Cachopa have really shown any signs of being a talent in the class of a Crowe, Fleming, Taylor, Ryder, KW etc. They look more like Styris, Astle etc level.

Early doors though.
TBH I really like the look of Latham.

It's nice to have batsmen at the crease actually capable of running quick singles and turning twos into 3s or however that saying goes.

It seems like part of becoming an established batsman in NZ these days is losing that ability. Ref Taylor, Franklin, Vettori, etc etc

Excellent from Guptill. (apart from thatshot )

NZ to win this series 3-0 and then lose to England in the CT

It's astonishing how quickly Guptill goes from looking imperious to village as soon as a spinner comes on.

I hope you all realise that the more runs Guptill scores in this series and in the CT, the more chance he'll have of retaining his spot in the Test squad.

It'd be an interesting debate now really; are the limited overs runs Guptill scores worth to New Zealand Cricket the leverage they end up giving him in terms of Test selection?

He's deceptively slow, IMHO.

Never seems to hurry batsmen.

Likeable lad, but just not sure his bowling has the chops for international cricket.
Well he's definitely not good enough in this format. He's a pretty shocking LO bowler, really, not that there are too many alternatives.

This is starting to get a bit ugly. Broad and Finn can't come back soon enough.

I also hope Scaly realises that the more runs Woakes goes for, the more chance there is of Bopara playing in the Champions Trophy.

He should be riding that Woakes horse home like he's got his mortgage on it.

Nah, it's not Guptill's fault that the selectors are unable to grasp the basics of the ODI specialist concept.

Shot!

Perfect sub fielder imo. (face)

And I think the selectors are slowly putting Guptill in the ODIs for now and long term project in tests box.

They've invested a lot in him, and they will be determined to get a return. He would be in the Sinclair box now otherwise.
