Jesse Ryder Seriously Injured during attack at Christchurch bar

That's what Newstalk ZB is saying.
Cool, thanks. I managed to find the article. Induced coma is performed
because it is thought to reduce intracranial pressure and therefore help prevent further damage to brain tissue.

And falling off a bicycle and landing on your head is not a serious injury? Canadian wrestler Bret Hart suffered a stroke after falling off his bike. The guy also has a collapsed lung according to some reports, meaning there was likely penetrating trauma to his chest- not the kind of injury one sustains during a regular punch up.
I think he was suggesting there is little point in speculating too much on what actually happened without further details. Not that the injury wasn't serious.

...dude: you were speculating that the beating has be executed with the intention to kill/disable and that it was an "organised" attack. There is no need to speculate. We know he was assaulted by a group of people, but that is really all we know. Its not helpful to hear your "guesses" about the "injuries" he has sustained unless you are either a doctor or a policeman intimately involved with the case. Just wait for the facts to come out: we aren't the tabloid press.

Exactly- so we agree the injuries are serious. 8/10 serious injuries are caused by serious intent. That's all I'm saying. Nothing more, nothing less.

...you actually said much more than that. I never said the injuries weren't serious. Quit with the strawmen.

Sickening news. Fights happen, but 4 on 1 is about as gutless and cowardly as you can get. Let's just hope he pulls through with minimal long-term damage.

Just heard about this. Really terrible news. :(

Thoughts are with him and his family and hope he pulls through and smashes a century.

No they aren't. You're talking out of your arse.

In any event, whatever the cause, this is a horrible thing. Just can't help but think about David Hookes in this situation. I hope the outcome is better for the big fella.

It's an induced coma, probably to spare him pain, so regaining consciousness hopefully shouldn't be an issue.
Nothing to do with sparing him the pain. A coma is induced to mitigate inflammation and bleeding in the brain. They would never do something this dramatic merely to numb pain.

Not sure how to respond to this. I was just thinking yesterday that we might see him take part in the tour to England, and now he's "fighting for his life" as the News just put it. I hope he gets better, and those four men are found. 4 on 1? Even if Ryder did something to provoke the attack, you never ever put someone at such a disadvantage, it's just cowardly.

What experience do you have to say that?

I'm an accredited specialist in personal injury law who's spent 20 years in the field. My practice mainly deals with catastrophically injured people who have horrendous burns, spinal cord injuries or brain injuries. I've had cases here, in the US, NZ and in the UK and Ireland. I deal with MVAs, medical negligence, public liability, aircraft accidents, criminal and domestic violence cases all the time. I visit hopsitals regularly to both see clients and to deliver talks to social workers and other hospital staff about the legal rights of their patients. I have seen the figures relating to the causes of serious trauma, and I deal with them as part of my job every single day.

Apart from that, I wouldn't have the first idea.

dhillon28, quit being tediously combative.

This is hardly the time or place for trying to pick bull**** arguments with people.
