Fast bowling loads at this stage of the year wouldn't allow for many more than four overs in a day in a competitive environment anyway, I would think.

Five-day Shield matches proposed. Would be pretty interesting. Overall in favour of the move, but I wonder if it would hinder the eliteness of test cricket. Also means fast bowling work loads will be increased.

5 day shield games is a good move, allows results on more docile pitches while also encouraging longer more mentally/physically straining contests which really prepare you for the real thing and separats the boys from the men.

I think quality and diverse pitches should be a higher priority.

5 day matches might bring into play more diverse pitches, as they wear out. Because at the moment the pitch is either flat or seaming for the entirety, nothing for the spinners.

5 days doesn't help if you finish in 3.

Pitches wouldn't be prepared for quick results though, so you would probably actually get 5 day games

Does anyone else play 5 day games outside of Tests?

fairly sure 4 day is the standard, 5 would be quite unprecedented

So while it would be nice to have longer games to promote longer innings etc, I wonder if it would take the gloss away from tests.

Isn't that the point? It's not like the public follow the SS, so it wouldn't really take away from the main spectacle or anything. They need to try and bridge the gap between tests an FC cricket so it's a good move IMO

Haven't we got a crowded schedule already? Or so the reckoning goes. Everything gets elbowed aside for the BBL anyway. Would just prefer they start producing better pitches (Its not impossible to get results on good wickets inside 4 days) and scheduling the season to be more considerate of the SS. Don't know how they can manage the latter with the BBL. If they have to play the SS in 2 parts then get as many as possible in as prep for home tests and the balance late season for the tours after our summer ends.

they are gonna have 6 rounds in a row before the Boxing Day test, not even Ryobi interrupted, but the BBL going into February is going to completely mess up our test team for the Feb SA tour, which is going to compound the impending humiliation England are dealing us.
