Tymal Mills coming out to play some grade cricket for university of NSW this year. Just about the quickest bowler in english cricket. Interesting to see how he goes.

reading the article on manuka oval, can someone explain why ACT would have been kicked out previously because other states felt threatened? how could the other states just kick a team out if they thought they were too good?

Yeah, absolutely. I understand limiting overseas players to a certain number by team; that's logical. But telling players they have to either play as local players or not at all if they're able to play as local players just discriminates against players who may wish to play as local players down the track, which is arse-about-face. If WA want to play Hogan as their overseas player and he takes 100 wickets @ 10 he might just decide he wouldn't mind playing as a local again so he can push for Australian selection afterall, as an example. I just really don't get how you can say Botha is allowed to play but Robson isn't.

Yeah, the fact that he can't even play as an overseas is ******** to say the least.

Why do we see so few overseas players in the Shield and Ryobi Cup anyway? Botha is the only one I can think of recently.

Just with the way Australian cricket works; there so few spots available with just six teams that it's seen as a bit of a faux-pas to give them away to players unless they're of genuine international quality. And of course if they are of international quality then they'll typically be busy playing international cricket.

Younis Khan had a dig somewhat recently too ftr. Andy Flower if you go back a bit further. All for South Australia.

Yeah, I guess the Australian season season only really shares an off season with England, whereas England shares its season with nearly every off season. Suppose fringe international players can play a higher standard of club cricket in Australia than they would in England as well, so getting a pro contract with a state isn't as important.
