Kumble averaged 32 post-2000, oddly. Sehwag well down on an average that I'm pretty sure was mid-fifties just a couple of years ago
Congrats on avoiding the Shane Masters opening combination. Another reason to love Cook, really.

A quickly thrown together "to hell with spinners" XI:

WG Grace
Victor Trumper
Neil Harvey
Frank Worrell
Stan McCabe
Tony Greig
Adam Gilchrist
Ian Botham
Kapil Dev
Harold Larwood
Andy Roberts

Ranji, Woolley, May, Kanhai and Lloyd were all very close to a middle-order spot, while Richardson, Tate, Hall, Snow and Thommo could make more-than-reasonable claims for the pace attack.

A combination of my side and Howe's side, plus Greig. We're starting to find a vague consensus here.

EDIT: Oh and Roberts over Hall.

Might consider Jack Gregory for one of Hughes or Mcdermott, but otherwise quite like that XI

Love how I basically didn't need to worry about the 50+ average restriction for the batsmen.

Same case when picking India's bowlers. Guess not a single Indian bowler has averaged close to 25. How sad is that?

Ratnayake at 7 is bit thin on batting, but both Vaas and other Ratnayake are good with bat.

An Aussie line-up:

Victor Trumper
Bob Simpson
Neil Harvey
Clem Hill
Stan McCabe
Doug Walters
Adam Gilchrist
Jack Gregory
Jason Gillespie
Craig McDermott
Arthur Mailey

Simpson, Walters and McCabe would share fifth bowler duties - Big Garth and Big Merv both a bit unlucky. Lee too, I suppose.

And few teams could top this one for quality of fielding - Simpson, Harvey, Hill, Walters and Gregory in particular were all magnificent fieldsmen.

A team from the Caribbean:

Gordon Greenidge
Conrad Hunte
Rohan Kanhai
Richie Richardson
Frank Worrell
Clive Lloyd
Jeff Dujon
Learie Constantine
Andy Roberts
Wes Hall
Alf Valentine

Worrell and Lloyd to share fifth bowler duties, and like my Aussie team above the fielding is superb. I was tempted to throw Walcott in as 'keeper since he averaged sub-50 with the gloves, but decided that was probably too much of a cheat.

50 and 25 seems rather lenient now. What's the best you can do with batsmen who averaged under 40 and bowlers who averaged over 30 (35 for spinners)?
