He was over 50 but slipped back again after the last test in India didn't he. Forgot he had gone back under 50.

    21st century

    Cook
    Sehwag
    Langer
    Laxman
    Pietersen
    Flintoff / Martyn
    Gilchrist
    Vaas
    Gillespie
    Kumble
    Ntini

Kumble averaged 32 post-2000, oddly. Sehwag well down on an average that I'm pretty sure was mid-fifties just a couple of years ago

Congrats on avoiding the Shane Masters opening combination. Another reason to love Cook, really.

A quickly thrown together "to hell with spinners" XI:

    WG Grace
    Victor Trumper
    Neil Harvey
    Frank Worrell
    Stan McCabe
    Tony Greig
    Adam Gilchrist
    Ian Botham
    Kapil Dev
    Harold Larwood
    Andy Roberts

Ranji, Woolley, May, Kanhai and Lloyd were all very close to a middle-order spot, while Richardson, Tate, Hall, Snow and Thommo could make more-than-reasonable claims for the pace attack.

A combination of my side and Howe's side, plus Greig. We're starting to find a vague consensus here.

EDIT: Oh and Roberts over Hall.

Might consider Jack Gregory for one of Hughes or Mcdermott, but otherwise quite like that XI

Monty Noble averaging exactly 25 with the ball was unfortunate.

Nah, he bowled a lot of spin with his medium pace so he'd need to average 30+ anyway.

Love how I basically didn't need to worry about the 50+ average restriction for the batsmen.

Same case when picking India's bowlers. Guess not a single Indian bowler has averaged close to 25. How sad is that?
