Laurie Nash

One player from the 30's that would fit this 11 is Laurie Nash:
  • Dropped after his first test for being "wild and unruly"
  • Only played 2 test's but finnished with a bowling average of 12.6 which is one of
the lowest (4th ?) in test history.
  • Keith Miller described his non Selection as the Greatest waste of Talent in Australian
Cricket Test History. His non selection was probably partly due to BodyLine.
  • Was picked in the Australian Rules Football team of the century in 2003.
  • Virtually all his First Class match's are from his Teanage years playing for Tasmania.
Victoria never picked him for a shield match.

I thought Rob Quiney was very properly shafted?? Nothing wrong with his sacking at all.

Unless you're saying they shafted him by picking him in the first place?

Lol some of the names here. Half of them should never have played, let alone get described as unfairly shafted.

Guys like Law, Hodge & Blewett weren't shafted. They just weren't among the best 6 batsmen in Australia at the time.

Hodge and Blewett (and Lehmann) were definitely amongst the top 6 batsmen in Oz for periods when they were in stellar form and not being picked

Id say that Hodge is still just about one of the top 6 bats in Australia

As for Law, it depends upon to whom you speak

Hodge getting dropped for Martyn and Clarke despite doing nothing wrong screams of shaft IMO.

Blewett getting dropped for Hayden though wasn't really a shaft, Blewett just wasn't good enough.

Wasn't Hodge a Victorian?

Didn't Quiney get three blobs in four test innings? & the other innings was a 9?

Not really making an unanswerable case for retention, IMHO.

I dunno about shafted, but arguably picking Steve Smith and Cam White as nominal specialist spinners wasn't really being fair to them.

I think the unfairness is being picked solely as a disposable human shield for Hughes against the Saffers.

Right. Injury forced his retirement. Man could swing even in SC on a consistent basis.
