Who is the best young batsman around right now?

WindieWeathers

International Regular
Just seeing how the English media are raving about Joe Root, it just got me wondering, who is the best young batsman at international level right now and who has the most potential? you have a few knocking around..

India= Kohli and Pujara

WI= Darren Bravo and Powell

NZ= Wiliamson

England= Root and Bairstow

Root- it's still early days really, he's been fantastic in the ODI's and done well in the Tests in India, but Williamson and Darren Bravo also done well in India and hit tons on their first trips over there, hasn't faced express pace yet at test level so it will be interesting to see how he copes with that,

Kohli- looked fantastic when he got a ton in Aus and was a master in the ODI's but slipped a little of late, especially in the England series,

Bairstow- had a rough time against WI but nearly got a ton vs SA, hasn't been able to hold down his test place though,

Pujara- looked unmovable at times against England but fell short towards the end of that series, clearly a solid talent though,

Williamson= the kid is a fighter, got a very good ton in India and was on fire, then his form dipped a little till he got another ton against the fierce SA attack last year at home, so the boy can clearly perform in different conditions.

Powell- had a poor start to test cricket but has been getting better and better, hitting three tons of late and is scoring runs in the ODI's, and the way he plays is extremely stylish, he must be the youngest opener at test level too,

Darren Bravo= he started very well in Sri-lanka, then got even better in India when he hit back to back tons, didn't do himself justice in England with the two tests he played last year but he's got two tons for WI since, and showed with a decent 86 knock in the recent Aus ODI series that he's starting to get more comfortable with different conditions.

So who's the best and who has the most potential? :cool:

I haven't read beyond the thread title yet, but I'd like to assert it's not someone from the West Indies.

It's Pujara by the length of his nose.

Warner deserves a mention as:

a. He averages 46 as an opener depite having virtually no fc experience when first selected;

b. He is probably the 3rd ranked opener in world cricket behind Cook and Smith atm;

c. He has already played 3 of the best innings in test cricket in the last 2 years;

d. He is arguably the most destructive batsman in the world; and

e. He is arguably the world's best fieldsman

Cricketer Of The Year
I want to say Irfan Karim, but for conformity's sake I'm really blown away by Pujara and Kohli just now.

Best batsman in which format? Or do you mean all-round?

Pujara is definitely best in Tests, but Kohli is BY FAR the best in ODIs (arguably the best ODI batsman in the world), T20s and all-round.

Warner is 26 so he's not exactly young but he's the only youngish Aussie batsman who has proven themselves a star (at Test and T20 level anyway...still got a long way to go in ODIs). Warner is also perhaps the best fielder in the world now.

Not Terrible
People you overlooked:

Nasir Hossain is 21 years old
Dinesh Chandigun is 23 years old
Tamim Iqbal is 23 years old
Mushfiqur Rahim is 24 years old
Phillip Hughes is 24 years old

All of these guys are better than Powell.
