Shane Warne's Argus Review

AFL is ****. /thread
It is the best spectator sport in the world. There are plenty of other entertaining sports out there, but footy stands alone. Anyone who watched the drawn grand final of 2010 would attest to this. I married an American who had grown up on basketball and American football; when she was introduced to footy, she couldn't believe such a game existed. It combines the best attributes from a lot of sports, and throws in a lot of unique mechanics too. It's also the only culturally Australian game there is.

You're from NSW, you grew up with rugby, for this arbitrary reason you are culturally driven to attack the code that doesn't dominate in your state. I've never understood this.

You rarely see Australian rules followers attacking rugby, but the reverse seems a way of life. I can only imagine this is because of the quality of the game as a spectacle, it looks a threatening product as a direct competitor. I think they coexist fine though. Australian rules stands in the way of soccer ever getting a foot in the door here, more than it will ever threaten rugby as a popular code. We love our contact sports here.

Such an unusual way to praise a sport. I mean an American woman not knowing about a sport that only Aussies care about, it must be awesome!!

Warne's time may be up after season of discontent

Many of the answers have been well-documented but one incident helps explain how some of Warne's teammates lost patience with him.

Warne is said to have berated the Stars' English import Luke Wright after a game at the Gabba. The captain had called Wright, who was out of position, into a catch that Warne himself was better-placed to attempt, then demanded to know why the Englishman didn't go for it.
luv u warnie

That Test team is disgusting.

Marsh, CalFerg and Faulkner all in the top 7? That's asking for 47ao all over again.

Is this your test team, or Warne's? I don't mind the inclusion of Faulkner as an all-rounder. I'd play Starc ahead of Coulter-Nile though, and Bird would be my next choice quick. Also, would have Hughes at #3 in place of Marsh (who I'd include at #4). Would persist with Cowan IF Watson is unable to bowl.

- Warner
- Watson/Cowan
- P. Hughes
- S. Marsh
- Clarke
- Wade
- Faulkner
- Siddle
- Starc
- Pattinson
- Lyon

Touch and go on whether I'd include another specialist bat at #6 and have Wade at #7, but I do like having the 5 bowling options.

Warne's.

What made you think the Test team would be mine but not the others? Was it the use of the word 'my'. I just copied and pasted the teams from Part Two of Warne's year 6 home work assignment.

Oh and I forgot to add Faulkner love that goes along with Marsh and Coulter-Nile. I wonder if Warne would have included Bailey in the ODI team if he didn't do anything yesterday? It seems kind of odd that he'd play Ferguson in Tests but not ODIs.
