Won't be an exaggeration to say that I've had the most fun watching Indian cricket in the 2000s while Sehwag's been going bonkers. Not since Tendulkar's peak has anybody captivated as much.

Is Mohali traditionally more lively than the other wickets in India? Bit like the wankhade pitch maybe?

Australia in India 2012-13 : India need Virender Sehwag in South Africa - VVS Laxman | Cricket News | India v Australia | ESPN Cricinfo

laxman you were awesome and all but south africa is really the last place we need to bring a faltering sehwag to..
Laxman said:
"In Chennai, he was unlucky to have played on in the first innings," Laxman said. "Then in the second innings there and in the first innings in Hyderabad, good deliveries got him out. It was not that he threw away his wicket. It is not the right time to drop him.

  • Sehwag averages 17.5 as an opener in SA. This over 6 tests, 11 innings and two whole test series (2006 and 2011)
  • As an opener, and against the likes of Steyn, Philander and Morkel, you'd expect to get good if not better balls than what he received in the current series. If he can't keep out the likes of Pattinson and Siddle from gobbling him up on docile surfaces, sweet bejesus what would he be doing in SA.
  • He is running on 35, and is only going to get older. Like Sir Viv, he has always been an eyes-and-hands player. Now a very crucial part of that, the eyes have gone.
  • India play SA in the winter which is about 8 months away. In the intervening time they aren't playing any test matches, so how does Laxman reckon any reasonable form built up (which would take a tremendous leap of faith given his record of recent) in the next two tests would be sustained till then? He averaged 51 (in WI) and 99 (vs NZ) in the immediately preceding series prior to the last two SA tours, and came a cropper in those. to remember there hardly any gap between the NZ series and SA series in 2010-11.
Laxman is embarassing himself really as a pundit. It is understandable if he doesn't want to criticise a chum but then he always has the option of staying silent.

The selectors must be wondering if they made the right decision keeping Doherty on tour instead of Agar, who has been on fire in the Shield.

Took 5-for today against SA and has 19 wickets at 24 in just four Shield games, not to mention 187 runs at 37.

He's come out of nowhere but for the sake of his development it's probably far better he's going great guns at State level rather than being thrown to the wolves in India.

You'd imagine he'll be closely considered for the Ashes tour and hopefully he'll be sent to England at the start of the county season to get further precious experience.

Australia definitely has a fantastic stock of bowling talent aged under 25, now we just need some young batsmen to realise their potential (hurry up Burns and Maddinson!).
